1. A good note and a good key.
Pleasing to play on piano.

A bit more compelling on guitar than boring old A.

7. Yeah, b-flat is a jazzy note.
B-flat is the delightful minor seventh of C.

Hard to get jazzier than that.

16. The b-flat scale is a tough one, no question.
Hi, RevCheesehead. Happy Saturday night to you.

19. And a happy Sunday afternoon to you!
I had to go to bed early last night - I work Sunday mornings (I think you knew that) ;)

21. Hey, that's good -- a Sunday morning gig.
You're right -- I had a sneaking hunch you might be busy on Sunday mornings.

I'm WILDLY intuitive like that... ( :) )

28. Nope. Lucky when things fall into place. Otherwise just another --
-- shmoe with music and film addictions.

Tonight I have Gordon Lightfoot on. He's doing "All the Lovely Ladies" and "Approaching Lavender" and 'Me & Bobby McGee" and "Sit Down Young Stranger" --

"And will you try and tell us you've been too long at school
That knowledge is not needed, that power does not rule
That war is not the answer, that young men should not die
Sit down, young stranger, I wait for your reply

The answer is not easy if souls are not reborn
To wear the crown of peace, you must wear the crown of thorns
If Jesus had a reason, I'm sure he would not tell
They treated him so badly -- how could he wish them well?"

--

When Gordon Lightfoot decides to write a folk song, the damn thing gets written.

A little kettle corn and lemonade later on, then it's on to tomorrow.

I hope your day was good and your weekend was full of good things. Is your congregation responsive to your comments on Sunday? I hope you have a cadre of people who are hanging on what you say and giving i full attention.

9. It's a nice, rusty color.
I'm a synasthete, so I can actually see music as color. Not as well as I did as a child, but the images are still there. It's somewhere between a rusty-nail rust and an Alabama red clay.

I like the imposition of unexpected thirds in chord progressions, so never expected from D/E/A-based scales, it's always a treat to hear in rock music (e.g. Over the Hills and Far Away GD...GCD..CGBbCD, lyrics start on G with the proverbial "hey baby").

11. It is the ABSOLUTE WORST for the guitar!
The guitar somewhat inherently relies on the use of open strings, and with no flats being a "starting point." Just in case you don't know, the open strings are E A D G B E.

Based upon original guitar compositions, songs in the key of Bb are an anathema to guitar players.

I have heard that it is fine with brass, woodwinds, keyboards . . . .

B-)

15. Sometimes music students are scared away by the accidentals but --
-- the key is comfortable to my ear.

The Bach Prelude and Fugue in b-flat minor is a fine, fine thing.

18. It's great, as long as I have my capo handy!!
Of course, it's acceptable to use a capo with an acoustic guitar; not so hot with an electric (but I'd do it anyway!).

23. Depends on if I'm playing a 'transposed' instrument like a clarinet or
trumpet. 'Bb' is easy on the piano, but it's a hard key for fretted string instruments like guitar. In that case, I prefer sharps. I tend to tune my drums to 'A', and 'G' for my surdão (big brazilian bass drum used in samba).

26. I wouldn't mind, except for playing an E flat chord sucks.
Best to tune down a half step. Your guitar I mean, not your piano.

I like the sound of B flat though.

29. its popular on a blues harp
Lots of classic blues music in F, so you'd want to use a Bflat harmonica to play cross-harp
