6. They're already making excuses if she should win
Robbie Gordon said that he wouldn't race against her because she has a weight advantage. She's 5'2 and 100 pounds where Robbies is a foot taller and a hundred pounds heavier. Seems the IRL only weighs the car, not the car and driver combined, so there's some legitimacy to that argument.

I live in central Indiana, so she's been the center of conversation all month, but it bugs me that no matter how well she does on the track, she's still a woman first and a driver second. Dave Callabro, the sports reporter for the local NBC affiliate has been acting like the proverbial male chauvinist pig all month. Patrick is on their broadcast team and every time she appears Callabro makes some snide comment about lipstick or some garbage.

I wonder if they'd give her the respect she deserves even if she would win.

If Robbie won a race and a fatter man than him finished second, would he give up his victory?

8. I don't know *her* politics but....
The radio coverage just brought in Gov. Mitch Daniels and they just GUSHED over him.

"And now the GOVernor of the GREAT state of INdiana -- MY MAN MITCH Daniels!"

That rated a STFU from me directed at the radio.

We don't get to see the race broadcast live here so we're stuck with the radio and it's just awful. The race is going on and they spend all their time talking about everything except the race. And there are no such things as "tires," it's always "Firestone Firehawks." Product placement everywhere.

I am certainly not the most astute race fan by any stretch, but these cars are busting 230pmh in traffic. Oval or no oval, that takes some skill. After Foyt fucked up and they got him in front of a camera, he looked like he'd been beaten with sticks.

TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY MILES AN HOUR IN TRAFFIC.

Covering a football field a second.

Engineering makes the car go fast. The driver keeps it on the road.

I once got a car up to 120pmh on the highway. All alone. On a straight line. It was hard, and scary.

230mph in a crowd.

43. Actually
I don't label things boring or dumb until I understand them enough to formulate that opinion. Wasting fuel is wasting fuel. Better that it can be produced here in the USAand burns cleaner? Not really, if all you want to do with it is drive around in circles to see who can do that slightly better. Oh, yeah...then there's the tires that they waste. Grown and produced right here? Cleaner burning? Lord knows that our landfills could use another bunch of composite plastic auto parts that might need to be replaced due to damage. It just seems stupid and wasteful. I'll stop having an opinion. Mine always seem to offend. Sorry I don't fall in line as easily.

Why can't we have the Indy 500 w/ no commercials? Soccer broadcasts just have a little advertising up by the game clock. Why can't we have that for this race?
