Boaters (Sailors specifically) what's your favourite style?

I love Ketches. This one is a beauty. Something about them really brings out the true spirit of salty air, unbridled possibilities and a big smile on your face when you've got a stiff breeze and a decent chop splashing of the bow soaking you.

10. She is beautiful!
I was an instructor on a skipjack taking kids on over-nighters on the Bay. Damn that was fun. We pulled into this place called Tangier Island, no bridges, completely isolated, no cars. It was discovered by John smith in 1608? and the people still speak English with an Elizabethan accent.

12. No, I've only sailed sloops and fore and aft rigged schooners.
And catamarans, those things are fun as hell! Fast, fast, fast! Flying a hull, strapped into the harness. Damn, there is nothing like it in the world.

I've never hit the catamarans. I'd like too, my Dad owns a 27 foot Catalina, it's fun to sail, but someday I'd love to be going much faster. OUr hull speed is 7 knots... and obviously we rarely reach that.

Not a Lowell's Dory, only pic I could find though ;-)

I found a boat shop in Lowell, Mass that makes traditional Grand Banks Dories. They are kind of expensive, around $7,500(US) for a sixteen footer(nearly double that with a sail rig) but one day I'd like to get one to just tool around in and explore some of the off shore barrier islands down south here, do some camping and over nighters out of it. The company is called Lowell's Boat Shop. and they have been in operation since the 1860s or sometime around then. I also found a place in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia that makes dories that are considerably cheaper, but they look like really good craftsmanship.
