Why Can't I include in image on a post?

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong when I try to add an image in post I follow the directions in the HTML lookup table but still all I get is the word image linked to the picture.

Example:

1. Just put the URL for the image

into the post. Don't worry about HTML. :)

2. Well, you have to have the image on an internet site.

Then all you have to do is right click on the image, and copy the address of the JPG image file.

How have you been trying to do it?

3. That's what I thought I was doing

The image is uploaded thru my geocities account. When I right click and check properties for the image it is the same as I have been using but still I only have the word image that is linked to the picture. I guess I'm missing something but I can't figure out what. Thanks for trying to help

... choice of server. The URL looks correct, but it's from Geocities, and I think they block hot-linking to their user's sites. Not your fault, I don't think.

6. I think you're right. I know I tried to use my free web space with my

cable co. to link my Ebay pics, and had the same problem. When I contacted them about it, they said they blocked such usage.

7. You need to have the picture on a web hosting service.

There's bunch of freebies around. I just happen to use http://photobucket.com

Open an account and upload your pictures. When the pic is uploaded, the hosting service creates a URL for the pic. To insert the pic into a post, copy and paste the URL into your post.

9. Happy trails to you.

You just need to remember to organize your pictures by folders / directories. The upside is you can easily find them if your folder names are descriptive. The downside is you can forget where you put them when you have a lot of folders.
