Tunes to play at our Chinese Bar

I'm headed for Zhongshan on 7/29. My partners and myself have a bar there.....we don't allow Karayoke. So, I'm gonna burn some tunes that I want to play when I'm there......

Any suggestions from the DU crew?

1. Given your enjoyment of jazz, I highly recommend Randy Crawford's version

of Rio De Janiero blues.

Staple's Singers are always good drinkin music.
Don't forget the NRPS.
Maybe a few Ella's, a Louis and some Frank and Dean for the hell of it. BTW, does this mean I have to spend my Fridays without you for the rest of the summer again????

Great choices...most I know, but this Randy Crawford...hmmmm, I'll check it out on ypur recommendation.

And I will give you FULL CREDIT at the bar. Of course, if you are in Zhongshan and you come to Panyo's (Friends)...you get a free beer or the drink of your choice...on me! :-)

12. Are you kidding me?

The shit I hear over therew (it may be popular or not) sounds like the same baloney that is popular here...'cept it's in Chinese.

But I have to tell you, when I was in China in March, we had this young Chnese dude playing Hendrix like it was his stuff. He was awesome. Couldn't speak a lick of English, but he was totally fricken awesome....I think Jimmy would have been proud. His version of Angel was......amazing.

17. yeah, I know, I know - I spent 6 months in China in '98...

...nonetheless, there was a fairly-popular Chinese-produced movie that had an interesting soundtrack. The movie was called something like "Hao hun ga"...roughly translates to "The Good Men" if I remember correctly...I had the soundtrack for awhile and then it was scarfed by someone. At any rate, there was a great arhoo solo...any chance that someone could rope you into...

Benny Goodman and Oscar Perterson.....when I spun those, they place jumped...they seem to like that 40's music...

I* think you'd enjoy this place....lot's of liberal, ex-pats from all over the world...It's like the UN some nights in there.....all I know is we seem to have a good time and the people there really, really enjoy the alternative to the SOS.

16. Big Standards fan here.....

I've played a lot of Louie Armstrong/Jack Teagarden. A favorite seems to be Basin Steet Blues. My partners tell me that is asked for all the time and everyone is sings "Won't you come along with me" and "Basin Street, Basin Street is the street where all good friends always meet"......great music is a well known everywhere I think.

And if you here Jack playing that trombone, well, he'll send you to Basin Street.....
