Poll question: Are ALL gay men well kept with their clothing and appearance?
Every gay man I know (5 now) is well kept. They all have ironed clothing, shined shoes, always shaven, and hair always clipped. I used to know more gay men in my youth when I partied a lot and knew more people, and the gay men I knew then also took their appearance very seriously. But you may have a different experiences.

So, in your opinion, are ALL gay men well kept with their clothing and appearance? or do you think it is a gross generalization?

1. Saying "ALL" of any group is one way or another is a gross generalization.

8. Personally? Not that I know of, although
I was friends with a couple about fifteen years ago who left piles of clothes lying around and shoved them into the closet when people came over.

But you can't say that ALL people of any particular group share any given personality trait. People are still individuals.

9. Some who I knew in college were more average
They were not complete slobs but they didn't take their appearance more seriously than the average male student at our college.

10. Not only no, but HELL no :)
I've met some gay men that fit that stereotype, but I've also met some that bore more than a passing resemblance to Jabba the Hutt.

Like most stereotypes, it's wrong :)

11. You don't know many gay men.
In my experience the generalizations are far from true. Gay men, like all of us, are as diverse and different as the whole spectrum of human personalities. I know many gay men who fit none of the stereotypes, including neatness.

I'm far too gay and far too subversive to worry about my appearance.}(

Remember when we voted out the 24/7 perfect look YEARS ago.

Made it sooooooo much easier to sneak in with the "hets".

19. Nope
Just because someone's a redneck doesn't mean they're a republican, and women aren't less intelligent, and... well, you get the picture. :) :hi:

20. Me and my hubby and gay friends...
...we DO take more efforts with appearance than probably most straight men. But I certainly don't iron or shine shoes very often, and I have quite fashionable, shaggy hair, not "clipped."

Here's my theory: gay men are still men in the sense that they are patriarchal and supremacist. They happen to, instead of directly oppressing women, oppress other gay men, in some cases at least. So gay men feel a bit of the pressure that straight women feel from society to conform with certain models. But let's not get TOO general here...

sorry some of us have more important things to do than be obsessive about our appearance

and yes, I'm a slob

the corner of my bedroom is hidden with dirty laundry

my bathroom needs mopped

and I have books strewen from one end of the place to the other

And I need not go into how many other gay men I've...err...come into contact with, who weren't runner-ups for a place on the Queer Eye cast.

25. I think gay men might rebel less
at the process of getting dressed up than do their Het brothers, but that would be the only generalization I'd hazard on this subject.

Especially if it means we get to break out the Cha-Cha heels!

crewmember of Serenity (not Inara or Kaylee though!!)
