How do you feel about beast feeding in public?

Or misanthropy. Or bigotry. Or beating your baby. Or starving it to death. Sometimes makes those of us who have been the subject of those things get a little twitchy, and wish our fellow posters could be at least a little more sensitive or less assholish. Not calling you an asshole, but the things I saw posted today in other areas of this board make me want to puke. And I'm not one of those people who appreciates being told to "lighten up" because yes, I think one or two things in this world are inappropriate to make jokes about. Sometimes, just because something is "only" a joke, doesn't mean it isn't also offensive. And I'm not sure what the deal is with all of the threads mocking posters seriously discussing, say, why people who criticize women who breastfeed in public. Why? Why is it funny to mock those folks?

it's just our goofy obsession with word play. 99% of the time copycat threads are not any kind of reflection on the way the poster feels about the original thread. it's just a play on words.

fwiw - this thread got me over to read the real breast-feeding one. with one exception, it appears that we're almost all on the same page. that thrilled me! :woohoo:

And yes, there are things on DU that make me want to puke too, things which are supposedly against the rules- but the rules are simply not enforced.

I'm not mocking anyone. Sometimes people come into the Lounge hoping to see something that will make them laugh after the intense atmosphere of GD or GDP.
