No Purchase Neccasary
Why do so many contests that companies have always say this?
Is it illegal for, lets say McDonalds, to give away a car by having you purchase their food for a chance to win?
Why does it always say....no purchase neccasary, mail to this address to recieve your free game piece?

Why would it be wrong for a company to make you buy something in order to try and win something?

Does the state see it as gambling?

1. That's exactly it.
I don't know the exact details of the law, but it's a federal law, and the promotional games must allow people to receive a chance to win without purchasing the companies product or service.

2. I think there are various
laws that require no purchase necessary. Not sure exactly how to research this. Maybe a call to your state's attorney general's office will connect to someone who'd know the exact law.
