Spider bites Man in Supermarket

Spider bites man in supermarket

Sainsbury's shoppers (Sainsbury's)
Sainsbury's has apologised for the distress caused
A 65-year-old man has been treated in hospital after being bitten by a venomous spider as he reached for a bunch of bananas at a supermarket.

Former gardener Phillip Travenen, from Newport, south Wales, collapsed in pain after being bitten by the giant crab spider at a local Sainsbury's store.

He was taken to hospital, where he was monitored for 17 hours.

my fave: from the Sainsbury's Statement: "We arranged for his shopping to be dropped at home after the incident, and are extremely sorry that this may have caused him distress." ahh, that was nice of them, huh? they took his groceries home after he was hospitalised. What a nice company. <I think it's a good thing to do, but I love the PR flack who put it in the press release, 'ok, all better now, we too the groceries home for him">

5. I've seen it.
I used to work in a grocery store. Once I opened a banana box and there was a huge bug inside (some kind of beetle I think). The thing disappeared on me though, and I never did see it again.

11. I don't think I ever opened those.
If I remember correctly, we didn't have clementines very often, and when we did we sold them by the box, so we never opened them up.

7. Up to an inch long? How misleading is *that* name?
I expected it would be larger that what I routinely find in my bathroom.

9. I had one like that as a 'pet' in my greenhouse window..(Wolf spider)
He was actually quite nice, and took care of any errant flies:) My boys and I used to even stun flies and flip them into his web, just to watch him in action:)
