It is a yearly ritual. These poor souls known as "Cubs fans" beat their chests when their team manages to eek out a win, then blame some scapegoat when the inevitable swoon comes in September. Mostly though, the swoon comes in July, but it is much more entertaining when it occurs late in the season, or even better, in a game where the team could have clinched a spot in the World Series, but manage to choke like the losers they were born to be. (See, e.g., the 2003 season). Can't blame the Cub fan though. It's really a sickness, like, say, herpes, you know, self-inflicted but sad.
