I love my Dish Network, but I become totally pissed off

when it clouds up or even threatens to rain and I lose the signal. I send rants to Dish Network every time it happens, but I get the standard reply that maybe there are trees blocking the dish or a bed switch box, etc. No trees in the way and switch box is fine, it's just their lousy satellite.

1. We've been having problems with DirecTV in rainy conditions

lately too. We've had DirecTV for almost seven years, and never had any problems with clouds/rain until the last year or so. The only problems we had previously were when snow or ice built up on the dish, and then removal of the snow or ice cleared it right up.

2. It is either three things

1. your dish receiver next to your TV. Check signal strength through the interface
2. your alignment of the dish if the signal strength is not up to standard
3. your transducers on you dish if the alignment is OK.

4. The frequencies involved

get attenuated by rain. If it's raining hard between your dish and the satellite, you'll lose the signal. Ranting to the company about basic laws of physics doesn't do any good. We've been on Directv for 10 years now and it's just something you get used to. Our cable company was too cheap to use waterproof connectors on the poles and every time it rained, the picture got totally snowy. As far as their response when you complain, I call it "Standard answer 35B" from anybody that gives a canned response.

5. I live in the Cascade Mt. foothills. (W. side)

As you can imagine it is cloudy/rainy many,many days of the year. We rarely have problems with the signal. I know this does not help your problem. Just anecdotal evidence that seems to point in another direction to fix your problem.

6. the only time i lose signal

is when there is a large storm cell approaching into the angle of reception. i can always tell if a bad storm is coming because of this.never had a problen with snow. i have noticed that new dish seems to be a bit better when it come to weather problems

or if more than 4 inches of snow piles up on the dish I have to knock it off.

for about 5-10 minutes at a time if it rains really REALLY hard.

But I've never had a problem otherwise.

I have Direct TV.

10. I have Dish and it only goes out in extremely hard

downpours not just rain in general. Clouds, snow, wind never affect it. There is something more to it if it goes out every time it rains.
