Music majors: What's the correct pronunciation of "Esterhazy"?
You know, the family Haydn worked for for years and years.

By the way, you'd be surprised how many kids fall for my joke about how Haydn invented the famous children's game "Haydn Go Seek".

7. It doesn't translate well to English pronounciation
Ess-ter-hau-tsee

The "ss" on "ess" is very short.
The "ter" is closer to "there" than "terse".
The "hau" is closer to "how" than "hah".
The "ts" is pronounced as one phoneme. There is no English equivalent.

9. Student of Hungarian language here
Many of the Hungarian websites I perused spell it Eszterházy.

The stress is always on the first syllable.
'sz' is pronounced 's'
'á' is an 'ah' type a.
'házy' means 'from the house of' (ház being one of the relatively few cognates of Indo-European languages.)

P.S. Re Haydn Go Seek: Man, you're bad.
