Cyclists: Need recommendations on bikes
I need a new bike and am shooting around the >$500 range. I do mostly city/trail riding about 30 to 50 miles an outing time permitting. I'm not interested in racing but definitely want more than a comfort bike.

I was looking at the Trek brand. Does that seem like a good choice?

1. If you can get past the small wheels.

These bikes are a fantastic buy. They ride as nice as a full bike plus they fold up for easy travel. The small size puts some people off, but I highly recommend trying one for a ride. One you get a foldup you'll never want a large bike again.

8. Not sure if I really
have any need for a folding bike. I have a two-car garage and a bike rack already for my car. They do look interesting, though.

How have you found yours to be useful?

2. Looking for a new bike myself
I've only heard good things about Trek. I don't think you'd be going wrong there.

I'm just getting started looking myself, but Trek is way up there on my list.

3. I think you might be a good candidate for a recumbent.
Consider the following that are within your price range....

Easy Racers EZ1 lite ...

Rans Tailwind --

Vision R40 -- My current ride.

Be Brave and try the Underseat Steering USS...

And a newcomer in the market...

It might take a little while to figure out how to climb with any speed on a bent ... you know, Spinning ... but you will be comfy 30 miles down the road.

4. Try one with wheels, preferably two of them.

5. do ya have a decent bike shop in your town?
...see what they carry, what the staff says...and it's a really good idea to test-ride a couple different variations to see what works good and feels comfortable for you...

Or...take a short holiday to New Orleans, and do the above at Bicycle Michael's right outside of the French Quarter.

6. Trek bikes are good (Lance Armstrong rides one)
Cannondale also makes some good models in this price range.

7. I'm thinking about a Trek, too.
Wouldn't mind finding a 20-year-old 520 to satisfy this Old School itch I got going...
They don't have much in the under-$500 range though, unless you want "Comfort" bikes or MTB's

Oh, but that Team Time Trial!
Mrowr!

9. I have a Trek
it's a Trek 1200 road bike. Aluminum frame. It's about 6 years old now. I love it. My only complaint is that the bottom bracket part of the frame is a bit flexy when really putting the metal to pedal, but they fixed that flaw a year or two after I bought the bike (I think by ovalizing the tube?).
Yes, I recommend Trek.
