Your Pet's Odd Tastes?
I just opened a can of refried black beans. Kitty went nuts meowing. I put a little on a finger and held it in front of her to no reaction.

Spooned some into a dish to use for a spread, put it on the coffee table. Went to the kitchen to grab some flatbread. When I came back she was attacking the bowl like it was tuna fish. And this, from a cat that has never, ever, gone after food - especially people food which rarely happens anyway - uninvited.

2. Plastic. My cats are plastic bag junkies.
We can't keep plastic bags out in the open at our house because the cats will chew them to pieces. They can smell it from several rooms away, too.

Nothing is grosser than a plastic bag with a hole chewed in it covered in cat saliva. :scared:

BTW, when one of our cats recently had an ultrasound for bladder stones, they found a huge wad of plastic is sitting in his stomach. All I could do was shake my head. I had no answers for that one.

She can be in a coma at the other end of the house, and if I make the slightest noise getting a breakfast bar, there she is, rolling on the floor, singing and acting cute until I break down and give her some. Her favorite flavor is raspberry.

The clean ones, right out of the drawer - she paws it open and picks a pair. Then she brings them to me in the living room, or at the computer. If I don't look, gets my attention so that I can see what she has brought me. Why does she do this?????

None of my 5 cats have ever spent a day outdoors in their lives since we rescued each of them, and yet they still do that. I've seen them stalk and kill socks, makeup brushes, shoes, etc. This whole thing is hardwired into their furry little brains.

It's soft, probably. It may carry, even through the wash, some of your most personal scent. Or if there's a particular textile?

Mine likes the socks. And anything wool. Major wool fetish. She once got into the bedroom closet and dragged an old, heavy, army blanket out to the living room. The closet stays closed now, at all times.

He has many kinds of dog treats, that he gets to eat when we go on a walk. If I offer something other than a marrow bone first, he will refuse it. A Beggin strip must be second. After those two come the generic milkbones, scooby treats, or snaps. You'd think he was a wine taster, for goodness sake.

...just to make sure she didn't get any of the old maids. She was a great cat that we "adopted" at 10 years old, from a house where a dog got all the affection. We had her for a few years, until she got killed by a neighbor's dog ;(. We loved her like a child and hopefully made her last years on earth pleasant ones.

Fannie cat: cookie crumbs, the milk at the bottom of the cereal bowl, spaghetti sauce. But only as sort of a taste, she doesn't want more than a sample.

Jen cat: anything meat related, but most especially the Sourdough Jack, and she begs and cries and begs and cries and would eat NOTHING but people food if I let her. (I don't.)

33. "Vegetarian" cats
My two kitties eat nothing but plain yogurt, dry cat food and fresh grass (lawn grass that I grow for them in a pot).

They refuse eggs and any kind of meat or fish, including cooked chicken and fish, even salmon. They won't eat any kind of canned or moist cat food.

I have had many feline friends over the years and have never before seen one refuse a piece of cooked chicken or fish. But both of mine - female littermates - are peculiar that way.

I couldn't leave any fruit or vegetables out, or they'd have teeth marks and cat saliva all over them when I got up in the morning, or home from work. I used to sit on the floor and peel potatoes over newspaper so he could eat the peels. Sometimes I'd buy bananas and !accidently! leave them on the counter at night. Those were his favorites. I miss that cat every day. Gone 2 years.

42. My Boston Terrier likes whole carrots.
She chews on them like a rawhide chew. Unfortunately, this means that I get to clean up all the little crumbies that get strung all over the place!. She also likes freshly popped popcorn--I think it's the smell more than anything, because she only eats a few and then she's done.

I had a cat once who loved to eat Christmas tree icicles. You'd try your damnedest to keep her away from the stuff, but sooner or later she'd be walking around the house with an icicle hanging out of her butt--a really pleasant view, let me tell you! We always had to keep socks away from her, too, because she'd carry them around the house and mew like she was talking to a kitten. It was sweet but also kinda sad.

One cat goes goofy over raw bread dough, takes after her daddy. Two of them lick the blue icy gel right off you if you let them. One cat is nuts over crackers, any kind, especially ranch flavored ones. We had a Sheltie, long gone now, who would go out in the garden and help herself to raspberries and cherry tomatoes right off the plants. She was also very fond of mandarin oranges. Childhood cat would eat black olives, Vapo-Rub, and any kind of pizza.
