favorite summertime drink?
it's warm here (hot, even! ;-) ). today i was thinking there must be a perfect drink for summer weather. beer seems too heavy, as does wine. i love a vodka martini, but again, it just is not conducive to the weather. g&t's are okay but i think that summer calls for a light and quite possibly fruity drink.

so... suggestions?

29. NO margarita mix!
Use fresh lime (or lemon) juice & orange liqueur. Add brandy & you have a Sidecar--some say this was the "ancestor" of the margarita. (Online cocktail guides will help with the quantities & suggest some other options.)

And Jose Cuervo does not agree with me, either. You might try a 100% agave tequila. And Palomas are better for hot weather. Tequila, lime juice & grapefruit soda over ice....

Fruity rum drinks are also good in the summer. Paper parasols optional!

7. Is there really any other choice?
If you really need to you can make a shandy by mixing beer with lemonade or ginger beer.

13. it's very nice.
we made it for a friend's baby shower and it went over big.
there's probably a recipe to google, but really it all depends on how long it's steeped anyway. a knob og ginger will spice up alot of juice.

15. Umm, you didn't specify alcoholic or non
So... my favorite summertime drink is iced tea. No sugar. No lemon.

But there's always a nice savignon blanc, or pinot gris.

16. Mine...
Alcoholic - vodka sour or margarita, or really good beer

Non-alcoholic - strong iced tea, ice-cold lemonade, or good old-fashioned water.

26. Me too..
However, Ive also been known to:
-Mix malibu run with pineapple juice and a splash of Cruzan.
-Throw a cup of ice, 3 tbsp Coco Lopez, a 1/4 cup frozen pineapple chunks, the juice of one lime, the zest of 1/4 lime and a liberal amount of Cruzan Single Barrel in the blender and break out the paper umbrellas and the penis straws we have left over from the bachelorette party.. :) Of course, hubby refuses to drink out of the penis straw, so he gets a crazy straw.

27. G&T, Pimms, long-vodka, or wine-spritzer.
G&T is effortlessly flexible, just add different quantities of tonic/gin.

Pimms is quite simply the distillation of a perfect English summers day into a bottle. For more fun a Pimms-Turbo is a normally mized Pimms with a shot of gin added at the end (if you're gentle it can float on the top).

Long-vodka, chilled glass throw in some Angostrua bitters, tip excess out, loads of ice, vodka, Rose's Lime Cordial (any other brand is practically heresy), and lemonade.

Wine-spritzer, simply white wine and soda (by which I, of course, mean carbonated water - just in case Americans are a tad confused by English useage).

i first learned the joy of g&t on a summer day in - well, actually it was wales, but the company was all english ;-) i'd never had gin before but it was delightful! i've adopted it as an ocassional beverage, but the fact of the matter is - it tastes better in england ;-)

30. When it's REALLY hot, ice tea is the best.
Hefeweizen is a cloudy, light wheat beer--usually served with a slice of lemon & quite refreshing.

And well-chilled pink wine can is recommended. Try Rose or Vin Gris de Pinot Noir--not overly sweet White Zinfandel. Go ahead & add an ice cube or 2.

31. Tanqueray & tonic
Perfect for summer.

I can smell them go by on a waitresses tray.

Not Bombay, Gordon's or Beefeaters - nothing smells and tastes like Tanqueray!

33. Beefeater tastes like nail-varnish remover.
Bombay and Plymouth are also heavenly, but as you say Tanqueray is the Rolls-Royce.

Gordon's isn't even a premium gin - not worth a second look on the shelf.
