Alright, what should I do? re: psycho brother bailing out on me
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 04:02 PM by LeftPeopleFinishFirs
Several weeks ago, I was listening to music and my brother (home from college) walked into the room. It was Ted Leo + The Pharmacists, the show I was/am going to tonight. He asked who it was, I said who it was and then mentioned I had tickets to their concert + that I was going to get one of my friends to come with me. He said he wanted to go, to not get another person to go, etc. and kept repeating lines like that even when I asked him multiple times over the last three weeks if he was sure he wanted to go. Cut to the chase...

It gets to today and he's grumbling around the house and stuff. I remind him about the concert and he brushes me off. Now it's like a full-fledged war because I reminded him that he was the one who offered to take my second ticket and we have to leave at 7 to get there on time. He's saying I forced him to go (remember he invited himself), I guilt-tripped him to go, the music is crappy, I don't like these "kind" of concerts (general admission, standing room), etc. He's screaming at me, I have nobody to go to the concert with (all my friends are going to/having grad parties tonight, or at least the ones that are over 18 and can get into this club), am stuck with having to have my mom drive me there and all this other crap.

I don't know if I should go or not, it seems sort of pointless to go by myself even though they're a great band and won't ever come back here after they get bigger...

:(

2. Go by yourself.
You might meet some cool people. If not, then leave early. At least you won't be wasting your ticket.

10. Don't ever feel like that...
Ever. I've been to many, many concerts alone, and much more often than not I've had a great time..

19. I understand...
but there's really no reason to feel like a loser... think of it -- the courage it takes to go in all by yourself... how many people wouldn't have the guts to do it?

22. Nah. I went to a show alone once
and I met people everywhere! Standing in line for the bathroom, standing in line for food and drinks, standing on the field, sitting in the stands.. it was cool.

9. Good
If I end up in St. John's on Monday I'm probably gonna be going to see Alexisonfire by myself, but fuck it, doesn't bother me any.

So go by yourself, have a good time.

Alexisonfire... you'll definitely have fun, I would go if I lived around there! They only came here one time, when I was out of town. Let me know how the show is.

20. Awesome!
I think the last concert I went to was Green Day in April. We don't get too many acts coming here, but when we do, I usually go. I have the most eclectic "shows gone to" list out of anyone I know.

Maroon5 played a show here several years ago and nobody knew who they were at that point - it was so cool, hardly anyone was in the club and Maroon5 was playing. They could probably pack a decent sized arena now... but it's always neat to see the band play before they get big.

23. We hardly ever get decent shows here
And I have the worst luck ever when it comes to seeing them. I missed 5 of the last 6 I wanted to see, haha. I'm hoping it will be 5/7 instead of 6/7 on Monday, haha.

May meet some new people there or whatever, at least youll have something to do tonight other than stay home, which is what my night may become if people learned how to call back, grr.

8. Is it safe for you to go on your own?
If you are a teen-aged girl going alone, depending on where you live, this might not be a viable option.

11. Yeah
I've never been to this club before. I've been to similar ones, and gone alone before, and it's kinda sketchy + creepy, especially in Albany... though the crowd for this show should be pretty tame, it's not like death metal or anything.

You'll regret it if you don't go. I go to shows alone, and I feel like a loser too, but I force myself to go because I know I want to see the band and it's usually OK when you get there.

But I'm going :)

15. Happened to me at a Jimmy Page concert
I had just graduated college and wanted to see Jimmy Page in concert. Two girls I knew who were still in college wanted to go and they were going to meet me at my place then we would go to the concert. (I lived about 2 hours from the college). Well, I was good friends with the one girl but I barely knew the other. But that other girl told one of her friends they'd let her hitch a ride to my area and drop her (the 3rd friend without a ticket) off and then they would come to my place.

Twenty minutes before the concert I still hadn't seen or heard from them. So I went to Jimmy Page by myself because damnit, I wasn't going to miss that show. I was able to leave the tickets at "Will Call" but they never showed up. Turns out they got massive lost leaving the drop point and trying to get out of there to where I live. But at least they had the decency to pay for the tickets

25. I wound up not going
I've never been there before and it's 18+ which is a different crowd than I'm used to... and Albany in general is a different crowd than Saratoga... I went to a graduation party for a bit... now I'm sitting here really pissed off because I have wasted 20 bucks on two tickets and will probably not be able to see them at all. Tomorrow is graduation, otherwise I'd make the trip to Mass, and Sunday is my party, until 5, otherwise I'd make the easy trip to NYC to see him then. After Monday the band is going out to the west coast.

I do not honestly care to talk to my brother from now on, he does stuff like this all the time and has no regard for other peoples' schedules and shit. I'm a REALLY flexible person, and don't "schedule my life", but when I have a promise or obligation I at least fucking fulfill it even if I have a "lousy day".

Sorry I'm totally crying/punchingbrickwallswithmybarefists right now

However he's really depressed/CRAZYPSYCHOTIC (I actually think he's bipolar... and I'm being serious about that) and I'm afraid that would set him off on some rampage I don't want to experience

I don't really know what to say. I've been crying for like the past hour.

I could have gone, but the other side of my brain didn't feel comfortable going BY MYSELF to an 18+ show in a scuzzy ass club/bar in ScuzzAlbany that I'd never been to. Like I would fear for my safety there, honestly.

on edit: I've been to GA shows before by myself, but not in Albany. I shudder just thinking about the types of people that frequent this place.

:grr:
