Shit kit

After my eighth day of diarrhea and feeling awful, I went to the doctor again. I am suppose to deliever some stool specimens tomarrow morning. One nurse explained what I was suppose to do, but I did not really retain much of the info because another nurse was finding a vein and inserting an iv at the same time (The doctor thought that I needed to be rehydrated). I hate the feeling of tourniquets, making a fist, and having a needle inserted and almost passed out. Anyway, I have an empty gray container, a vial with buffer for parasite stool specimens, and another vial with buffer for enteric pathogens. I am thinking that I am suppose to go in the gray container and transfer some of it to the two vials, but I am not sure.

have gotten some written instructions to go with the kit, along with a mailing lable. I really don't think it makes much difference one way or another, unless you were to defecate before/after taking something.

it will help mellow you out and dry you out as well. opiates are good for the runs.

I had to do something similar recently. Not to be a downer, but I had thrown up rather badly in the lab's "washroom" and had about 50,000 people ask me I was all right after doing the proverbial deed... :eyes: Good grief, they wanted me to collect samples of THAT for them and they didn't expect any less?!

Yes, you go in the gray container and then (ick) transfer enough of it to the vials. There ought to be a red 'fill to here' line on the vial's label.

Sounds like we've got similar symptoms and had to get similar tests along with the annoying self-collecting bit... :puke:

Do get some Gatorade, preferably the orange or lemon-lime stuff as its concentration of salts and sugars replenishes electrolytes, and has potassium as well. Gatorade Ice (for those two flavors) is identical except it lacks the food coloring to give it the orange or yellow color yet costs more. :eyes: Gatorade Frost is the same thing but it uses wacky blue food coloring and artificial flavors; you'll want to stick with natural flavors.

It is good to get some encouragement. Thanks also for verifying what I am suppose to do with the stuff. I should drink more gatorade. My potassium levels were a little low so I need that something with potassium and I don't want to have to go through intravenous rehydration any time soon. I hope that whatever I have goes away on its own soon or is identified and killed with antibiotics or something. Good luck with a full recovery from your recent illness as well.
