"Donkey shame. Darlin', donkey shame." What the hell's that mean?

Remember this scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off? Why is he lip synching a song called Donkey Shame? What the hell do donkeys have to do with this movie?!?! Always baffled me....

He's a total Donkey shame.

Okay, I know people liked it, but I literally rank it as the worst popular film I've ever seen. It was more formulaic than a dish soap commercial, could have been written by a tenth grader, and could have been better acted by an eighth grade troop of kids from juvenile hall.

Aside from that, though, it was just dumb.

I usually liked John Hughes films, I like Matthew Broderick most of the time, I had nothing against any character in the film. I went to the film expecting to see genius. I even went back thinking I was just in a bad mood the first time. Hated it worse the second time.

I know, I know, people rank it as one of the best films ever made. Then again, Braveheart won an Oscar and Reo Speedwagon sold records, so you can't always trust people. :-)

I saw when it was released. It followed every Hollywood formula of the time. It had acts of rebellion, it had brief hints of nudity, it had the kid beating up the principle. It had corn cliches about "isms." When I watched it, the week it was released or pretty close to it, I got so bored by the end that I was completing the lines for the actors and predicting the next seen. "Watch, she's going to kick the principal in the nuts." She did.

It didn't set the formula.

Although I liked the Breakfast Club.

I'm not the only one who hated it, just in a minority. As I said, I went back a second time to give it another chance, and hated it worse.

i loved that movie.
but i find tom cruise annoying, so maybe we just have different taste in cinema. :hi:
