Your house is on fire. You can only grab one thing.

OK it's a gimme that all family and pets are already safe outside the house. So, you can grab only one thing, what do you take?

That was easy!

It was interesting to see what people grabbed to take with them on the spur of the moment.

Of course this was about 25 years ago, so instead of my computer, I took my typewriter (in its case...with as many of my manuscripts as I could fit inside it). Now in a computer age, thankfully there's a lot less to carry.

Definitely STILL the computer.

Do i want my Les Paul, or my fender? perhaps my acoustic...or maybe an amp---no wait, I'll take my bass...:freak:

all that being said, id probably go with my acoustic. after much deliberation, that is.

The rest of the stuff can burn. There's a wonderful dining room set that belonged to my grandmother, but I can survive without it, but I can't survive without my credit dards and check book!

It was my first woodworking project.

and if I could, the antique table and silver urn that survived my mother's house fire. They are very old, belonged to my great great grandparents.

last year I was napping after I got off work early, and my old roomate was cooking chicken. His cooking oil burst into flames and set the whole kitchen on fire. He screamed for me to get out of the place, and when I got out of my bed room, the smoke was so thick you couldn't see anything and the sprinker system was already hosing the apartment down. I found the door, got some fresh air and went in for a few minutes until I found my cat, who was ok (just scared) and then I got out. I was wearing soaked through light blue boxers and a white t-shirt, so i might as well have been naked. Oh well. My neighbors probably saw more of me that day than they intended.

My cat is healthy and happy, and my apartment has been restored and most of the replacable stuff has been replaced

Have to be a pretty good friend for you to keep him after that. :-)

I can quickly stick my laptop in my pants, and put the dog and cat under each arm. i just hope i remember to grab my car keys, or else i got nowhere to put them.

I figure other members of my family who have their own house have pictures of my parents and I anyway.

All three are in the same case so that counts as one doesn't it?

Just so you don't think I am a bad mother, we put out kids pictures on CD's and have them in the safe deposit box.

What kind of mother would leave her 3 babies in a burning house? ;-)

reference materials, and my financial records. Everything else I own can be replaced except for my grandfather's old bookshelves, which are too big to move, anyway.

during a fire. One night when I was in junior high there was one in my basement. I lived on the third floor at the time and the people on the first floor knocked on our door to tell us. Smoke was pouring into my place and after telling my mom not to worry because it was raining I grabbed a radio I had borrowed from a friend and went outside. One fireman who saw me holding told me I should've left it because I could've gotten a new one with the insurance money.

My sister's room was the only one that got burnt up. The firemen were throwing all of her stuff out the window. It was pretty traumatic for her.

Although we arrived after the fire dept. did. Wasn't much left. All I could do was look on the scene in a state of shock.

I can replace the computer, it's all my work that would be hard to recreate.

so for me it would be the 'puter...

It has my wallet, credit card, bank card, insurance card and other cards I'd need. It also has a basic supply of my medications and my keys.

I'll have to play a lot if we want to rebuild the house.

The rest is insured.

so much irreplaceable stuff...

The snake is the guilty vote, the computer would be tough to replace, and some of my art I'd be awfully torn up about. My stuffed animals (toys), my bird skulls, and my quilt-in-progress might also merit consideration. My coffee table, once it's made, will also be a contender.

But the number one item would be my Leica, followed very closely by my Swarovskis.

so i can call the fire department.

I'd probably be able to toss my dvd collection out the window too.

replacing license/cards is a pain in the butt
