Poll question: Beaches or Mountains?
Are you a beach person or a mountain person? At which one would you rather spend time? I like the mountains better. I don't swim and I hate when sand gets all over me.

best of both, if you're not looking for a remote cliff in the Cascades.

4. The beach
I would always pick the bech over the mountain. I like the mountains and hiking also but it can't top the beach. It isn't really the swimming. Just sitting at the ocean listening to the waves. The best sound on earth. It calmes me down and whatever problems I have the ocean just washes them away. More or less :)

6. Brazil
has them both, in remarkably close proximity.

That way I never have to decide!

The downside is, in the coastal cities, the mountains (actually big rock outcroppings) tend to be where the favelas (shanty towns) are.

7. I live in Virginia...
2 hours to the beach

2 hours to the mountains

I love 'em both, but prefer the beach.

13. Correct in some aspects!
How about ten minutes to the beach and 3 hours and 50 minutes to the mountains?

But yes the beach. Check out Croatan Beach for more beach environment and no catering to tourists.

11. Mountains.
Although, one reason I like California so much is that I can do both easily. Every once in a while I like heading out to the beach. But I grew up primarily where there were no large mountains, so I really enjoy spending time there.

12. Give me the mountains.
I lived in Miami for too long and also lived on Miami Beach, so I have had my fill of beaches. At least, I am now in North Georgia where the mountains are close by.

I have a nice view of the mountains from my livingroom, and several beaches are about 10 minutes away.

I visited Vancouver briefly a few years ago. I wouldn't mind living there. :)

17. Born and raised in Boston
can't help it if I'm a beach person. (Though I don't stay outdoors on an actual beach very much, because I burn to a red hot crisp!) I love boats, water sports, and walking along the beach at dusk. Listening to the ocean at night time is very soothing.
