The reason why you should get golf lessons ...

I loved golf. It was my obsession. I played while I should have been studying. It added an extra six months to my degree through failed classes.

But I had a mean bitch of a slice and couldn't get rid of it ... and couldn't afford lessons to correct it. So I sold my clubs and left it all behind.

That was 25 years ago.

Yesterday I had my first lesson with a pro. I had been playing again a couple times a week with my hideous "bend-90-degrees-in-the-air" slice and was at maximum frustration.

So the guy looks at my swing and says, "Well, you have a slicer's grip and swing." (No shit, Sherlock). "Just rotate your top hand like so, square the club before takeaway, concentrate on rolling your wrists at impact." (OK - he said more than that but you get the drift)

Oh. My. God. I could feel my swing flatten and not chop over the top ... and suddenly the ball was going straight or drawing slightly. Then I started swinging harder, and it still stayed straight.

Then I noticed I was hitting the back of the net at the driving range ....

The obsession is back and I'm loaded for bear :evilgrin:

When the DU Open is held in 2008, i will consider you a serious threat to the title. With a slice, you'd be no concern. But, losing a slice is the first step to lower scores.

Now, go work on your short game.

BTW: So far this year, i've gotten my Hcp down to 3.1. I'm hoping to hit 2.5 before season's end. I've gotten more distance this year with a swing change, and i've always been a straight hitter. Course just got a little shorter since i'm hitting everything 10 or 12 yards longer! Driver/5 Iron is now Driver/7 Iron.
