What kind of "deal" is this for frequent flier miles?
If I buy five fifteen-packs -- that's five cases (with an "extra" 3 bottles!) -- of Dannon "Spring" Water, and send in the proofs of purchase and the redemption certificate, American Airlines will add 500 miles to my account.

In the first place, I don't drink that much water. In the second place, if I did, I wouldn't BUY it. I'd filter tap water at home. In the third place, I am not about to add seventy-five plastic bottles to the local landfill!!

:argh:

1. Ya know? I get so pissed at American sometimes.
I switched my cell phone service to AT&T Wireless to get airline miles, and now they don't exist anymore. I could have kept Sprint for all the miles I got. I used to get miles for my home phone too, but that deal went away as well.

Now I only get miles when I happen to fly American or go to dinner at one of the restaurants that is part of their program. Of course, I have 35,000+ miles. I'm saving to get a free international ticket.

2. I'm a brand-new member to their plan - flying for the first time on AA
in November. So far I'm unimpressed, but I guess I'll wait to fly.

3. I originally joined years ago when you could get 500 miles with 5 cereal
boxes. I ate the Kellogg's breakfast bars anyway, so getting 5 boxes was easy. I do get miles with my grocery store's discount card as well. I also joined Northwest's program to get a discount trip to Boston.

I should join Southwest's. I fly them a lot more than American. American is ok as an airline. No huge complaints that wouldn't apply to every airline. The nice thing about them for me is that I am close to their hub in Dallas so it's easy to get just about anywhere.
