1. (null post)
I do not appreciate Bill Buckner. He still fucked up the '86 Series.

4. Well since the Sox won last year, I've forgiven him...
But then again, he was pretty good with the bat for the Sox...they might not have reached the Series without him...had 102 RBI's that year, 110 in 1985...just one, lousy flub...

8. When it's the most important flub in 77 years...
That's a pretty big flub.

3. I always liked Billy Buck
When he was with the Cubs, he was just fine. A heckuva hitter and he wasn't a bad fielder then either. He played the game the way it is supposed to be played, that is he hustled all the time.

5. I've always liked him.
I had a personal stake in seeing the Mets win the '86 series, but I really, really, REALLY hated to see it go down the way it did.

:loveya: Bill.

And at least his last name isn't Merkle.

6. I appreciate that the Red Sox won last year, and that Bill doesn't have
to bear that burden any more. Go Sox!

7. Buckner was a great hitter and shouldn't have been in the game
at that point anyways. He was injured and had been replaced in the late innings for defense in the other games.

10. I interviewed Bill Buckner in April 1986
The year he'd boot that grounder in the World Series.
Most memorably, he chewed a combination of bubble gum and chewing tobacco and when he'd lean over to answer a question (this was in the visitors' dugout at Tiger Stadium during pre-game batting practice), his breath would make your hair curl.
But I appreciate that Bill Buckner took time out to talk with this reporter on my first day of covering major-league anything. That was very generous of him.
John
Bad breath or not.

11. Played half his career on one good foot and still great.
One of the last great ballplayers of the pre-prima donna age.

12. One of my favorite players when he was on the Cubs
In the late 70s and early 1980s. Won a batting title, I think.
