Birds in the wild make tools to dig bugs out of trees.

Their favorite raw material is long cactus needles or twigs.
They modify them and then dig bugs out with them.

Is the bird does not encounter pliable metals in the wild. This is not just a stick. The bird modified the wire to suit the task.
