Parents find snake cuddled up to baby boy
ST. THOMAS, Ont. - An Ontario couple were horrified when they woke up to find a snake lying on their infant's chest.

The month-old boy also had a small bite on his neck.

The baby was checked out in hospital and is fine.

The parents told police their son was sleeping in bed with them and they awoke at about 7 a.m. and spotted the snake.

The black and white reptile, a non-venomous California king snake, is about 45 centimetres long.

It had slithered away from an neighbor's apartment, where it was kept as a pet.

"It was lying on the shoulder-neck area." said Cont. Glenn Hodgson of St. Thomas police.

3. Happy ending to that story. Here's another

A few years ago some guy in NYC, I think in the Bronx but not really important where, had a pet python that he hadn't fed for more than two weeks. He kept the snake in a box underneath his bed. Connect the dots: the hungry python strangled the guy while he was sleeping and ate him. Now if that isn't natural selection at work, I don't know what is.

I remember that story...but I didn't have your wit on it: Natural Selection, indeed. :)

7. Thanks for the cross-reference. I didn't realize it was that long ago
Unless there was another clueless snake lover in the city who didn't read the first story and became one himself. :-)

14. I wonder if the '96 case made it to the Darwin Awards for that year.

:)

Nevermind...my curiosity got the better of me (as usual) and I tracked it down.

Both the '96 case (AND the '99 copycat idiot) made their respective yearly lists.

15. Horses, birds, and dogs can learn a child is part of...
their herd, flock, or pack. To a snake that child is just meat.

8. I took an afternoon nap with a spider like this
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 08:32 PM by undeterred
I spent a summer in Africa many years ago. One day I took a nap after lunch and had a little quilt over me. When I got up and folded the quilt a big harry spider fell out. I screamed. It was a completely harmless spider about 3 inches in diameter. If I had felt it crawling on me during the nap I think I would have had a heart attack... still gives me creeps to think about it!

9. Hey, the California King Snake is a good snake!
Parents(who are vampires) bite boy, blame it on snake(which is a constrictor). :sarcasm:

Sounds like a good anti-snake snake to have. (maybe not in Ontario..)
