Mallard Fillmore versus Jon Stewart
Utterly unfamiliar with concepts such as humor, the creator of Mallard Fillmore has decided that Jon Stewart's parody of his foul little fowl is some sort of theft...

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/mallard.asp?date=20050707

...thus proving that conservatives are utterly humorless imbeciles.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/mallard.asp?date=20050708

By the way, would you have guessed that the figure in the last panel was supposed to be Jon Stewart if Tinsley hadn't used the name? Me neither.

Fun Fact: The parody that Tinsley is up in arms about consists of Mallard mindlessly repeating Limbaugh talking ponins, then concluding "Oops! I forgot to tell a joke!"

1. Wasn't there a lawsuit a few years back that allowed a Repuke candidate
to rip off a recording artist in the name of "parody"?

2. Too bad. Parody is fair use.
I just ignore his strip, ever since the day he ran one calling teachers either terrorists or the mafia, I forget which.

10. Mallard Fillmore IS hilarious...but inadvertantly so
Notice the viciousness of the last panel of today's strip....it shows clearly what a malignant lump Tinsley is.

3. Huh?
Jon Stewart as Michael Jackson?

The sad thing is that it could have been funny dealing with selfdepricating humor of being satirzed in "America".

4. No way it could ever have been funny
It's Mallard Filmore.

The man is incapable of writing humor. His idea of humor is fat women representing feminists and effiminate men representing... well all the rest of us.

6. Ugh!
That comic strip makes me want to puke on a normal day, but this is ridiculous! Thomas Jefferson didn't really write the preface to "America: The Book" either, but most people know that because the book is PARODY. Also, didn't "America" come out like at least eight or ten months ago? Way to be topical, Mallard Fillmore!

8. I've complained about that strip for years.
It's the same dumb, lame "point" over and over again, "liberals (represented by stupid-looking shallow types) are stupid looking and shallow".

Surely, SOMEWHERE, there is a RW comic who can actually be somewhat creative? Or is that just an oxymoron?

13. Mallard Fillmore....SO not-funny!
So you draw a rip-off of "Howard the Duck" and make it mouth RW Radio talking points and THAT is suppose to be the best they can do to counter "Doonsebury"?

20. I seriously hate that comic strip.
Really, I shouldnt have to get pissed off every time I open the entertainment section of the LA Times. All he does is spew the same bile and garbage that Limbaugh, Hume, Coulter, etc spew on a daily basis.

And I never realized it was a Howard The Duck ripoff until just now!

16. And furthermore. . .
isn't this a little of the pot calling the kettle black? I mean, Mallard Fillmore does nothing BUT set up straw men and put words into people's mouth.

Methinks he doth protest too much.

Sorry, I just had to use all caps on that one.

Mallard Fillmore is one of the dumbest bits of rightwing trash I know of.

I don't mind people being conservative, but I am sick and tired of the braindead uncreative asshole kind of conservatism.

18. Compare this . . .
. . . a few weeks back, when they had that Tom Delay love-fest, someone starting singing a variation on "If I Had a Hammer." Not a parody, and for political purposes, so arguably not protected by fair use. NPR interviewed Pete Seeger, and he just laughed it off, in essence saying, when you put a song out there, you have to accept that people will riff on it.

Amazing, the perspective you can get when you aren't full of self-righteousness.

23. Millard Fillmore has been dead for over 130 years

He is considered the patron saint of mediocrity. That's probably what attracts the creator of the comic strip to him.

Let him rest in peace.

By the way, Millard was also the leader of the "Know-Nothing party"...anti-immigrant fundamentalists. Sound like any other party off hand?

25. Well first, his caricature of Stewart is gawd awful.
It does not even look like Jon Stewart! More like Rodney Dangerfield's long lost son. Second look at the nose and eye bags he drew ..Not only does not look like Jon, Stewart's nose and eyes looks a bit on the anti-jewish side. Just saying. I saw alot of that when i studied nazi propaganda. I find it always strange how the right wing people in the media attack the person not defend or explain themselves from what the person said. If that guy calls himself a cartoonist hey really lieing to himself.
Glad i don't have to glance over that crap in my newspaper comics.

Stewart it is a nice-looking guy, and that character does indeed look like some Nazi propaganda poster.

Wow, that's really vile. Even a clueless Irish chick like me, who is not in the habit of seeing anti-semitism behind every bush, picked that up!!

30. My first experience with Mallard Fillmore...
I was at a relative's house and they had a copy of the New York Post. I was bored out of my mind and started reading it. The Mallard Fillmore cartoon for that day listed facts about taxes (such-and-such percent of your income goes to taxes etc.), then he says that "can you believe there's a whole political party that wants to raise your taxes?" I figured since this was the Post, they can get away with publishing such ignorant shit. I've loathed Mallard Fillmore ever since.

there is just NO HUMOR in them. Doonesbury and Boondocks are witty, Non Sequitor is clever, those strips are very humorless.
