Calling all DU old farts, I am dissappointed. Usually my posts
on 1950's stuff draw lots of responses. Posted this this morning and only had one non-responsive reply:

"What 1950's TV show had the line "Dedicated to you, the leaders
of the 21st Century?" I'm thinking a segment of Mickey Mouse Club but can't remember. I have to go out for a couple of hours before this storm gets worse and will check back. The "leaders of the 21st Century" have really screwed the pooch, I cannot think of a single good thing that has happened since I came home from the New Year's Eve 1999 party. Can you?

I think all the mean kids watched that show and took the line seriously, plotting an evil takeover while everybody else went out to play."

1. Well, I was watching TV in the 50's but I sure don't remember that.
I watched the Mickey Mouse Club too. Sorry. Can't help ya.

2. Here's someone who agrees

Hiding over in the Usenet archive, just sitting in a random message's signature:

... >He-Who-Is-Still-Waiting-For-I t-To-Feel-Like-The-21st-Centur y

"The Mickey Mouse Club! Dedicated to you, the leaders of the 21st Century!"

Another link, again not authoratative:

... If you can hear them too, as they used to say on the Mickey Mouse Club: "This is dedicated to you -- the leaders of the 21st Century!" Rock on, Jimmy.

8. I don't think every show ended with this, remember every day
Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 03:15 PM by rzemanfl
had a different theme.

Monday - Fun With Music Day
Tuesday - Guest Star Day
Wednesday - Anything Can Happen Day
Thursday - Circus Day
Friday - Talent Round-Up Day

I still vaguely think this ending was for some segment that had to do with news or science.

12. My favorite was Anything Can Happen Day...
because sometimes they did a roller coaster ride segment and I always got butterflies in my stomach as the camera zoomed down the hills. I was too young to be allowed on coasters at that time.
Thanks for the memory!!

4. googled it... found this:

(snip)
The parents of the girl across the street bought a television, whereupon I began to visit her a lot. For many years television was something other people owned, not us, but I still managed to see a lot of it. Aah, memories of those old t.v. programmes. The Mickey Mouse Club, "dedicated to you, the leaders of the twenty-first century", and...well, that's about all I remember from those days

5. I'd have to email TV land and ask them
I haven't a clue, but it is an intriguing concept.

Began sometime around 1955 if I remember correctly. Anyway that is how they ended the show.
