Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?
Edited on Sun Jul-10-05 09:01 AM by ET Awful

Remember how she said that
We would meet again
Some sunny day?
Vera! Vera!
What has become of you
Does anybody else in here
Feel the way I do ?

2. But few people remember that Vera Lynn actually DID say
we would meet again some sunny day

We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when,
But I know we'll meet again, some sunny day.
Keep smiling through, just like you always do,
'Til the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away.

So will you please say hello to the folks that I know,
Tell them I won't be long.
They'll be happy to know that as you saw me go,
I was singing this song.

We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when,
But I know we'll meet again, some sunny day.
Keep smiling through, just like you always do,
'Til the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away.

3. The White Cliffs of Dover (my mother's favourite RIP mum)
There'll be blue birds over
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow, just you wait and see.

There'll be love and laughter
And peace ever after
Tomorrow, when the world is free.

The shepherd will tend his sheep,
The valley will bloom again
And Jimmy will go to sleep,
In his own little room again.

There'll be blue birds over
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow, just you wait and see.

4. Actually, in a roundabout way, that's the song that made me post
the thread :).

I was thinking of that song earlier today, and that led my brain to We Will Meet Again which in turn led my brain to Pink Floyd which I knew everyone here would recognize :)

5. I always wondered who she was!
I don't remember her, but I remember being asked if I remember her. Now I can remember her independently of being asked if anyone remembers her.

Nice feeling.

6. I have Vera Lynn on my IPod/iTunes
Amongst rock/pop/punk/funk/new wave tunes, a sprinkling of songs from the 30's and 40's makes a nice touch.

Have you noticed how "We'll Meet Again" turns into a singalong at the end?

7. Dame Vera Lynn
Be respectful, folks, and address her correctly.

(Sheesh, these young people today...)
