Do Maine Coons grow in spurts?
Mine went from "normal-size kitten" to ten and a half pounds in about seven months. Now she's a year and change old and weighs 12 pounds.

Oh, and she's back to jumping up in my arms. That's gonna be fun when she hits sixteen or seventeen pounds...

2. I have an eighteen pounder-- not a coon-- that tries to do that....
It's a real problem when he misjudges-- eighteen pounds of embarrassed kitty hanging from my flesh. Luckily, he hasn't hit an artery yet. He's a very big boy-- not obese, either, just "big boned."

The most gentle cat around though, until he got hungry. Picture in sig line he was about 18lbs.
:hi:

on edit: they grow until they are about 2 years old. They also are good travelers (for cats).

4. Yes, I think so

Our MC boys are 3 and 2, respectively, and the two-year-old is currently growing faster than his brother. They are both about 20 pounds at this point. Maine Coons actually grow until they are four years old. Most males (show males, of our experience,) weigh anywhere from 18-22+ pounds when fully grown.

If you'd like more information about Maine Coons, please go to http://www.fanciers.com/breed-faqs/maine-coon-faq.html, or send me a private message, and I'll try to answer any questions.
