What is the music that soothes your soul?
For me, these records are the musical equivalent of deep breathing exercises....

1. Acoustic indie-folk type stuff.
Bright Eyes' "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning"

Elliott Smith's "Figure 8"

Those are great to relax to.

2. '70s soul, Cole Porter, Tower of Power, and, (I'll hear about this,
but who cares?) the Carpenters.

The ever-present tear in Karen's voice is somehow calming to me.

14. I love that song.
I used to wanna cover it in my band but the "Eyyyyyyyyy love you more today than YESTERDAY!" part was way too high for me.

My favorite record of all time is "Pet Sounds" by the Beach Boys. "Revolver" by the Beatles and "Ziggy Stardust" by David Bowie are other excellent albums.

As far as music goes, I usually listen to blues to cool off. Anything from Charlie Patton to T-Bone Walker to Howlin' Wolf to Magic Sam to Peter Green.

I also like Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Beethoven and Mozart

And several others, but I'm insufficiently caffienated at this point to have the patience to look up more images.

spacy jazz:

Although I'm not sure if I'm properly distinguishing between "soothing my soul" and "making me zone out really heavily".

33. Have you heard Twinemen yet?
It is Dana (sax) and Billy (drums) from Morphine with former Face2Face singer Laurie Sargent on vocals.

The music is more mellow, but still reminiscent, of Morphine.

28. Ironically, heavier music makes me feel more at ease.
HUM is usually a good one for me.

On the lighter side, Ben Folds usually talks me down.
