Cat help needed!!!
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 08:54 AM by CatWoman
this morning I was awakened to Trinity growling menacingly towards Female.

She had her backed into a corner, and Trinity's tail was all bushy.

I picked her up, but she wouldn't have any of it.

Female looked at her like she was nuts and walked away.

This is the first time this has happened, and I'm scared for Female's safety, as she is declawed and Trinity isn't.

What do you think is going on??????

2. They were probably having a property dispute over a piece of lint
or other minute spec on the floor.

Quinn and Althea do that occasionally. Usually they're very friendly, but once in a while for no apparent reason, Quinn freaks out and jumps on her.

Neither is ever harmed, but it is rather disconcerting :)

Both these responses are cracking me up, and doing CW no good whatsoever.

10. My answer may be humorous, but it's also completely serious.
Cats sometimes act weird and freak out for no apparent reason. Just keep 'em separated for a while and don't worry about it unless it continues for a long period of time.

Soft Paws for Trinity. My cats wear them as the unexpected cat fight breaks out from time to time here.

Most vets carry them and will put them on the cat for you.

8. Abbott and Evita do it all the time...
...and then 5 minutes later one of them is licking the other one's butt

Cats are funny like that!

12. I'd go for the "soft paws" idea
or have Trinity de-clawed before he hurts Female. Two cats are like two siblings. Sooner or later there's going to be a fight.

13. It's probably happening more often than you think
My cats have got pretty good at having scuffles outside my line of sight, because they know they'll get yelled at and scruffed if I catch them doing it. The worst that's ever happened is one of the cats got whacked across the nose. We could tell only because his nose is white and the scratch showed red.

The best thing to do is separate the cats and let them mellow out for a while. Any cat that feels backed up in a corner will flip, even if it's by a cat they've known all their life.

Hope this helps. :)

16. Cats continuously reestablish their pecking orders.
Sometimes it's sparked by some territory issue, or who gets to play with a toy NOW. Sometimes one just starts picking on the other.

In 99% of the cases they settle things with no harm done whatsoever. Nature plans it this way so that, in the wild, disputes within a species don't cause that species to decimate itself.

And you need to let them work things out. Keeping your cats from figuring out the pecking order can make them neurotic, imo.

17. I'm going home at lunchtime to check on them
the funny thing is, Female and Trinity are the more "mature" and even tempered of the four.
