"We'll get him, we'll find him," Bush said in his most unequivocal acknowledgement that the administration believes Saddam is alive and playing some sort of role in the armed opposition.
Six months after declaring an end to major combat, Bush said, "We are at war."
For a long time after the U.S. airstrikes in Baghdad, the administration refused to say whether Saddam was dead or alive. But that position has changed in recent weeks. Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said last week that attacks against Americans were practically inevitable as long as Saddam remained on the loose.
"The fact that he's alive is unhelpful," Rumsfeld said.
