Favorite hot sauce?
God knows there's a zillion of them out there these days. I was wonder what you all like. There's a little store in Portland, ME I pick up hot sauce at when I'm there on vacation. They rate the heat from 1-10 on the price tag, some going as high as "10+". That's the only thing I'll buy.

So, thoughts?

1. Pure Cap
One drop will do you.

500,000 scolville units. You have to sign a waiver to purchase the product from most stores.

6. Barbadian Scotch Bonnet sauce
not sure of any brand name, but one drop on a hot dog makes the hot dog edible. Instead of pure heat, it has a very nice flavor as well. Approximately 200,000 Scoville units (Jalapenos are only about 20,000 Scoville units).

9. It's called Grandma's Hot Sauce
made and sold in Jamaica; FDA won't allow it in thru normal stores; it's a little local product, but it is the most flavorful, while still intensely hot, sauce I've even been lucky enough to lick. My friends who volunteer two weeks a year there in a free clinic, bring back boxes full. It's addicting.

16. Sriracha is my favorite easily-obtainable Thai hot sauce.
My favorite domestic hot sauce is Texas Pete. Love their whole line of products from Winston-Salem, NC.

In the early 80's, Ms. Renu, who ran the best Thai restaurant in the Montrose area of Houston, presented me with a big plastic bottle of Sriracha. She knew that I was flying back and forth to London a lot and she knew the Brit food fare to be a bit dull. In fact, I was flying for Ken Lay at the time (Lockheed Jetstar II, L-1329).

19. Another vote for Sriracha
Great all purpose sauce, lots of garlic. I consider it a staple food. :) I haven't found anything it's not good for.

Medium-medium hot.

El Tapatio on Chix-n-biskit crackers is good too, Kind of like portable buffalo wings.

24. LOVE Sriracha!

Gotta big bottle of it in the fridge...Great on eggs, chili, everything...
But I have developed a huge fondness for Tabasco Chipolte sauce, too.

Yummy!

I do NOT like sauces so hot your dick burns for the next 2 days when you pee. What's the point? Gasoline'd have the same affect...

10. I always make my own
I, at the end of the summer, always buy a huge bag of extra hot green chiles from Hatch (the best in the world). Get something to grind up veggies:

Throw in some chiles.
some onion
some tomatoes
a touch of garlic powder
a small amount of your favorite spice
maybe a little bell pepper
dried pepper seeds

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

14. Matouk's "Flambeau" habenero sauce. When I can find it.
Our local discount grocery outlet occasionally gets it in, and I buy lots of it. It's from Trinidad, and you can order in online, but it's WAAY too expensive that way.

But the sauce is VERY VERY HOT, but doesn't make everything on your plate taste lilke habaneros.

15. Hellfire & Damnation
H&D is a great habanero, but usually only available in specialty stores. In major supermarkets, I get Melinda's Habanero or Yucatan Sunshine if available, or Tabasco Habanero. I keep most of the varietals of Tabasco on hand, because of their versatility. Plain ol' Tabasco is great for cooking, and I can't make pasta sauce without it.

17. 16 MILLION SCOVILLE UNITS!
http://www.fieryfoods.com/extreme.html

The top one is 16 million. Only 499 bottles made, and it costs $250. I don't like hot sauce that much.

22. Tabasco or any habanero....
I love really hot hot sauce. Franks has a new, hotter sauce that's better. And Louisiana make a good habanero brand. Tabasco also makes habanero.
