Am I the only one?
Just saw War of the Worlds (as part of a double feature with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the drive-in).

Am I the only one who thought the War of the Worlds plot was weak?

1. Yes
You are the only person in the world thinking that.

Good lord, what is wrong with you? This is terrible.

8. Earlier movie...
Wasn't there an earlier W-o-W movie. I seem to remember it being in the '60's, maybe early '70's. The book itself is a nice, short afternoon read.

9. There was
Gene Wilder played Willy Wonka in that one.

Both movies are good. I am partial to the Gene Wilder version...the costuming and makeup on Johnny Depp creep me out.

11. How bout the 90s one ?
Called ID4 I think ? Alien invasion, impervious to our weapons, humanity helpless, defeated by a "virus". Was I the ONLY one to notice the parallels ?

14. The original was a 1938 radio broadcast by Mercury Theater.
It caused panic all over the place because a lot of people didn't hear the beginning when Orsen Wells introduced it. He locked himself and the players in the studio and wouldn't stop till the end. A lot of people thought it was real and panicked.

10. yes, the plot is weak, the story not terribly well told, the characters
not riveting, but DAMN good FUN and we can't wait to see it AGAIN!

that combo is playing here in Denver and I was just thinking it would be fun to go see tonight.... if I can get intheflow away from Harry Potter. She got it hours ago and is hiding in another room laughing and making funny sounds. Makes me jealous. :eyes:

15. Not at all
I tore it apart personally, though I did give it a 7 on the basis of the SFX alone.

18. I won't bother seeing it, because I think Tom Cruise is a lame,
overrated "actor."

But I do want to see "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" with Johnny Depp. I've re-read the book just in time.
