The bumper sticker on my SUV says "No blood for oil"
I won't support the troops, but I'll buy the cheap gas! I'm doing my part - I make sure to educate the attendent by telling him that this war is all about oil. I can even get into detail, since it takes forever to fill up this tank!

I've always been against war. At my Ivy League college I organized a rally to kick ROTC off of campus, those warmongers. I can't support those troops, because America is the aggressor, and Saddam Hussein was the legitimate government - he got 99% of the vote after all! Those troops volunteered for the military - I didn't - I chose to go to college instead and major in international finance. I hope to get a job at the World Bank promoting free trade.

I will do everything I can to stop this war! Except in any way inconvienence my middle class lifestyle, and I'm sure as hell not giving up my car! Besides, I wouldn't know which companies to boycott anyway! I gotta go, my TV show is on!

3. Oh yes
everyone would be much better do nothing about anything they can't immediately change the outcome of.

They are many ways to skin a cat.

Anyway,absurd deserves absurd so here:

people responsible for pulling the triggers that fire the bullets that are killing Iraqis are not responsible for pulling the triggers that fire the bullets that are killing Iraqis

That's about it yeah?

5. Yes
And who is pulling the trigger?

I could have a stack of bullets at home. Who would they kill?

6. you didn't pay for bullets sitting at home
You're willing to buy from the businesses supporting the war, that means you are a collaborator. They couldn't do it without you. You are assisting war profiteers, aren't you?

7. What?
So the people actually pulling the triggers are not responsible for doing so? It's me allowing them to? Can I not consume gas and still be against those people getting killed?

We have a qualitative difference

Is it worse to shoot an Iraqi

or

Is it worse to buy gas.

Or are they logically equivalent?

To believe either of the latter two takes some interesting mental agility, but feel free to continue.

8. You've done your part to support the war machine
Aren't you lucky that your part is so easy? You can provide the profits that keep the war machine going, all the while never getting your hands dirty.

"Can I not consume gas and still be against those people getting killed?"

You can continue to consume gas, and say whatever you want. Your actions speak louder than your words.

10. you're in denial
What are you doing to stop the war? We know that you feel justified in doing business with the people behind the war, you feel comfortable with supporting the profits of those who run the war.

So tell me, are you against the war? What are you doing about it? Besides giving money to oil companies I mean?

11. Mainly
Marching, writing letters, trying to convince people what is happening is wrong, being appalled at the loss of life.

What are you doing? Hoping we "win"?

13. in another words, nothing substantial
What you ARE doing is contributing to the profits of the warmongers. Your words are ignored but you money talks. You can write letters and make arguments all you want, as long as you keep giving them your money, they don't mind.

So you'll do anything to stop the war, except interfere with your middle class lifestyle right?

What am I doing? BOYCOTTING GAS FOR ONE. No one gives a shit about my arguments, nor yours. What they do care about is money. So put your money where you mouth is, or shut up.

16. Well since
last post was pulled probably due to being able to dish it out but not take it.

People firing guns are killing people.

People have to take responsibility for their own actions.

Buying gas and firing guns are logically and functionally different.

17. "Buying gas and firing guns are logically and functionally different."
Yes they are. And buying gas from the corporations that support Bush and the war is collaborating with the warmongers. Too many people are willing to support the war with their actions, as long as they don't have to do anything personally distasteful.

The troops kill and die for your cheap gasoline. If you weren't buying gasoline they wouldn't be killing and dying.

You could start here:

I'm trying to determine if the problem with your argument is weak analogy or strawman. Can anyone help me here?
