Need advice on a software problem
A friend bought a Dell Inspiron 5100 which came with a version of XP, and uses AOL 8 as a browser.

When she makes calls to the web from DU or Buzzflash the software locks up.

Any suggestions on what information is needed to talk to an IT type or solutions would be appreciated.

1. Tell her to try Internet Explorer
or any browser other than AOL.

2. Agreed.
AOL's browser is notorious for incompatibility issues. IE is easy since it's built in, otherwise there are 3rd party free browsers like Mozilla (which is what I use), Opera, and a multitude of others that are more than serviceable.

3. no aol
tell her to remove aol from her computer and get another ISP. these problems have nothign to do with her new computer, and are all AOL related. However she wants to go about changing her ISP, do it. SHe should go broadband, but not aol broadband. As a technician, me and my staff would never support a browser/software problem if AOL were even mentioned. Generally fixing one problem with AOL causes another problem, its shitty software - and a terrible service. Tell her to get out of AOL immediately, she's paying too much for too little (or in this case nothing at all).
