Dog lover here. Cats are evil animals that have no place except in the barn catching mice.

discussing benignly inane topics like whether dogs are cooler than cats can be something of a relief.

There's a hell of a lot of posters here that would stay on my ignore list than are on there at the moment.

I've bonded with people in the Lounge over silly ass shit, sometimes after wanting to tear off their ears in GD. The silly shit gives us a safety zone in which we can actually socialize without the political differences that often tear us apart on the rest of the board.

but I'd add the ancillary observation that topics of some substance often tend to sink like a stone in here.

But I'm allergic to cats.

and my dog loves cats, especially when she gets a taste of our cat's food, because she thinks the orange cat on the can's label represents the contents of the can. Mmmm, orange cats.

Everybody knows the sole purpose of the internet is to exchange pornography and criticize movies and TV.

Face it (here comes another Steve analogy): if you want to see a bloddy religious debate, watch a General Baptist and a Souther Baptist go at it. It's an inverse thing. The closer your beliefs align, the bigger the arguments over the details. Why? Because the other guy is "so damn close to right (correct)" that it galls you no end that he doesn't see his erroneous thinking. It works the same way with us. (I'm feeling the heat already for posting my thoughts on abortion on another thread, and I haven't been back to check it since the post.)

Just in case you're interested here's the stance:


Example: abortion. My personal belief is that it is wrong as a means of birth control as well as in other instances wherein it is performed for the convemience of the mother. I also believe that the choice of whether or not to abort is none of the government's business. It is overwhelmingly the business of the mother and father in many cases. She/they need to make that decision and live with it. I find it hard to believe that anyone can be either universally for or against all abortions.

In short, we need a place to go off the deep end on shallow shit to maintain our sanity.
