Here we go again, first California, and now Mississippi and Kentucky slip through our fingers.

California is lost to a big muscle cartoon character from Austria who claims he's a Republican, and even New England has GOP governors except for Maine. The South is rejecting their Democratic governors they once had. I don't like this trend. This is especially bad in light of Clinton carrying Louisiana in 1996. What the hell went wrong? We even picked up 5 senators in 2000. That magic seems dead now.

I get more discouraged every single day I read the paper or look at the internet news. It's as if a huge fist flies out of the computer screen every time I check headlines. I half expect to read stuff like "Bush offers to sell national parks," with the full approval of most clueless Americans. Nothing is beyond the pale with this guy.

Bush is not doing that great in the polls, but if the 2002 and 2003 election results mean anything, they don't exactly make me want to run out and buy champagne for 2004.

We're stuck in the horse latitudes with morons like McAuliffe at the helm of this party.

The bizarre election of Arnold Schwarzenegger will be seen as a minor bump in the road in the context of history. The state legislature is still about 2/3 Democrats.

Democrats did very well in many states having local elections. We did exceedingly well in Pennsylvania winning the Philly mayors race by a larger than expected margin, We won the Pittsburgh (Allegheny Co.) Executive chair from a Republican incumbent, we picked up a state Supreme Court Justice. Great showing for Dems in Pa.

In New Jersey, we won both houses of the legislature.

In Virginia, we picked up seats in the Assembly.

We won several mayoral elections in usually Republican Indiana.

We won the Mayors contest in Salt Lake City, Utah.

There is good news out there.

Jersey both houses. I am glad John Street won again, I used to live in Philly. Pennsylvania is often referred to as Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama stuck in between.

We vote on our new governor November 15. It could go either way at this point, but I'm not giving up yet. Remember last year when Landrieu beat Terrell in the runoff election in December? Louisiana may come through for the Dems again. We can still hope, anyway.

After the polls closed I had a sickening feeling in my stomach as I checked the internet with an old decrepit laptop that took 2 minutes to load a news website. The stinking NY Times had "Terrell ahead in Louisiana," which made me feel even worse.

even though Whistle-ass came down here (twice)and campaigned for her. Louisiana might come through again. I'm not counting on it, but I haven't lost hope yet.

but the early report (NYT) said she was on the way to victory, which put me in the dumps. thank heavens Landrieu made it.

Mayor:

Bill White - in runoff 38% (former state Dem chair)
Orlando Sanchez - in runoff 33% (former City Councilman - conservative)
Sylvester Turner 29% (Dem. State Rep - most of these votes should go to White)

Mass transit bond issue passed (despite heavy Repub lobbying against):

Yes - approved 52 %
No 48 %

City Controller:
Annise Parker 41.7% runoff (gay city council person)
Bruce Tatro 20.0% (conservative idiot)

the south??? Long Island is now entirly Democratic, congressmen, councils, and executives! We now control New Jersey and some traditionally conservative spots in PA!

I fear liberal Seattle is more lost than California. Most or all of the candidates were Democrat or Green in name, but they stink as bad as any Republicans. Only one or two candidates made George Bush an issue; very few talked about any important issues at all.

It was every bit as embarrassing as California's Total Recall, just less publicized.

The only thing on our ballot in Baldwin County, Alabama was a referendum on Sunday liquor sales. Us bad ol' boozers won.
