Your strangest scar: where is it, how'd you get it?
Mine:
I have a 1" scar across the bridge of my nose. I happened four years ago, when I was putting away a chopping board and a hand-chopper on a shelf above my head. The chopper slid off and hit me, blade side down, right across the nose.

I went to the emergency room, and they glued the cut together, since there wasn't enough skin for sutures.

That's the strangest one. :P

2. One part of my strange scar is on top of my foot, and the other
part of it is on the bottom.

When I was four years old, I was riding on the back of a friend's bicycle. She overturned her bike, and the kickstand went all the way through my foot.

5. Not strange, really.
But kinda funny.
About an inch long on the inside of my thumb.
Cut the nerve and I have no feeling left.
End of my thumb is completely numb. I constantly drop things, or crush them, not realizing how much pressure I'm holding with.

All this from trying to straighten a piece of glass.
I learned from it though, glass is fairly rigid and doesn't take to being bent.

8. Mine is about one inch long and parallel to my lower lip
I took a fall on a flight of concrete stairs and upon impact I bit my lower lip all the way through. The worst part was that it happened at two in the morning, I was alone and had to drive myself to the hospital.

12. I have a two inch long, thick scar on my knee
I got it when I was very little and climbing on a rock I was told not to climb on. I fell and cut my knee open. My father does not beleive in medical attention, so I got no stitches. I also have an imprint of my two front top baby teeth just below my lower lip. I tripped and fell on the front step and bit into my lip.

16. Two puncture scars on the back of my hand
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 09:12 AM by OurVotesCount-Ohio
about 1 1/2" apart. My dearly departed Sir Thomas C. Cat became upset after I picked up a stray that showed up at our house. I went to comfort big baby and he sunk his "fangs" into the back of my hand..

Within a couple hours I was at the Dr, given antibiotics that didn't work, within 24 hrs, I was admitted to the hospital with cellulitis, 3 days in the hospital..2 weeks of IV antibiotics. Seventeen years later, dear Thomas is gone but I still have the impression of his upper and lower teeth in my hand.

18. I have a scar on my shin from when I tripped over a gravestone while...
..blindfolded and dressed as Bugs Bunny

Not kidding you.

It was hell night and I was trying to find Donald Duck. I had no idea I was in a gravestone until I ripped open part of my shin. They banaged it up and I finished hell night and then immediately afterwards went to the Emergency Room for stitches

19. I used to work in a frame shop and sometimes handled pieces of glass
that were quite large. I was cleaning the glass on a piece one day and I went to flip it (like I have a million times before) and the glass must've had some kind of flaw in it because it shattered for no reason. For a second I thought to myself "Phew! I could've really been hurt..." until I looked at my right thumb and, for a split second, saw the bone. Then the blood started. OH. MY. GOD.

The worst part was that I freaked out and refused to let my coworkers take me to the emergency room for stitches. And if you wait more than 6 hours or so it's too late. So it took ages to heal and I have this horrible knotted scar on my thumb. The weird part is that I slit my thumb open from top to bottom in a thin but long cut. The scar is short (half inch) but wide. Like it shrunk in a weird way.

20. Inside my left wrist. No, not a suicide attempt, although when people
see it they look at me funny.

This scar has always looked to me like a seagull flying, with three other dots serving as tiny seagulls behind him.

I got it when having open-heart surgery as an infant. It's one of the several that I have at artery points (both elbows, groin both sides, both ankles), where they hooked me up to the heart-lung machine. And here I am!

23. i have a scar at my hairline that i got when i was 17
So embarrassing.

I was in love with a boy in school, and we were exchanging little love notes two or three times a day. I was skipping around the house, getting ready for school, anticipating seeing this boy, when I skipped a little higher than I should have, right in the middle of a door frame. Knocked myself right out, and woke up in a puddle of blood.

So what did I do? Washed the blood out of my hair, jumped on my bike, and rode the 5 miles in to school. When I pulled into the school yard, my friends rushed up to make sure I was ok - apparently there was blood streaming down my face. :eyes:

On the plus side, the guy rode me to the hospital on the back of his bike. That was sweet of him. :loveya:

24. Small One On My Eyebrow And One On The Left Index Finger
First one was the cause of an accidental headbutt in a boxing match. The hair from the eyebrow never grew there again, so it's noticeable.

The one on my finger, i cut in a bartending mishap. (Actually a really DUH moment.) It's a jagged scar from a cut that went all the way to the bone. (Trying to open the foil on an expensive imported rum with a fruit knife. It slipped. I wasn't cutting away from the hand. Stupid, stupid, stupid.)

25. Scar on my right 4th toe (next to the pinky toe) from running into a fan
I was 8 or so, and there was a tornado warning in good old El Dorado, Kansas. We didn't have a basement and always went to shelter at the neighbors' house. My mom always freaked out during such times because she was chased in her car by the 1958 El Dorado tornado, and she was yelling at me to get out of my pajamas and get dressed so we could run to the neighbors'. As I was running to my room, I careened around the corner and crashed into our fan, cutting my toe. Still have a tiny scar on it.

27. Vertical scar between upper lip and nose
When I was five, scampering across the street, I stopped the paperboy on his bike with that lip. All the king's horses and all the king's men put my lip back together again.

The same impact also graced me with a broken collar bone which went by undetected until it was nearly healed.

By the way, it was my fault. Wee kid logic. I saw the bike and decided to return from where I started so it could pass. Meanwhile, the bike was swerving around behind me when I came back like a kamikaze - schplock!

28. 3" C-shaped scar on top of my head.
My horse ran off with me about 2 years ago. He ran through a fence and I came off, hitting the fence post head on. They thought I was dead. I started to regain consciousness in the ambulance on the way to the emergency room. It was my first, and hopefully, last ambulance ride.

30. 1 1/4" under left eye.
Though it happened about 50 years ago and is pretty much gone now.

I was minding a 9 year old while my mom was visiting his mom.
He wanted to dig a hole in the woods behind his house. I figured what-the-hell, it'll keep him busy for a while.

He was digging; I was reading a book nearby.
"Hey! I found a worm! It's a REALLY BIG worm!"
Oh hell, he's found a snake.
I ran over to see.
When I bent down to look I got a shovelful of dirt in the face.
The tip of the spade caught me just below my left eye.
I couldn't see out of the eye.
I wiped at it and came away with dirt and a lot of blood. Thought my eyeball was hanging out.

I ran inside to my mom screaming "How bad is it? How bad is it?"
She looked at me and fainted.
Oh shit.
The other mom revived her and off we went to the ER.
7 stitches.
The eye itself was unharmed. I just had an eyeful of dirt. As soon as they washed it out I could see fine.

The kid was beside himself with true remorse.
He had just thought it would be a good joke to throw some dirt on me.
ha ha

36. I was about 4 or 5
and I was sitting on the front steps at my grandfather's place. I was eating a biscuit, and Grampy's dog, Buddy, was sitting with me. I gave him a piece of biscuit to eat, but then supposedly changed my mind (this is how others have told me) and tried to get it back. I guess Buddy didn't like indian givers, so he bit me on the forehead. It's in front of the hairline, and it's not that big, but if someone looks for it, they can see it.

At the time, my sister and I shared a bathroom with a tiny, tiny shower stall. I was always knocking things over in there, but it wasn't a problem... until one day she accidentally hung up her Venus with the blade side pointing out. Ow. Ow, ow, ow.

I *used* to think that was pretty embarassing, before I saw this thread. Geez, and you people are supposed to be the *smart* Americans...
