HELP! Working with an uncooperative lawyer.

I have been working with a Reno attorney for over two years. Sometimes he seems to be good at handling the case (a divorce) and sometimes he just disappears! Last year, he didn't communicate at all between May and November! When he was pressured, he said, I'm sorry, I have no excuses. I just had some family problems. He has been working on my case from January through June this year and communicating the status at least once each week, UNTIL mid June. Now he's unreachable again!

What is the best way to deal with him?

And get yourself a NEW atty.

You can also turn him into the state licensing board.

inform the state bar as to why you released him

likely they ha ve a rule of professional conduct demanding prompt and diligent service to a client - a violation of the rule would subject him to dicipline - it sounds like he has been slagging off such that he has violated the rule. Report him.

I'm waiting for 9 AM PST to contact the State Bar of Nevada.

This is very difficult to deal with because my son (who is the primary client) is in Sicily. He has asked me to be the contact with this atty here in the US, primarily because I'm at least in the States! He asked me this morning to see what he could do because he is so disgusted with this guy, and I'm trying to do what I can for my son.

It's so hard for me to even find a NEW attorney for him, since the best I can do is a phone interview. I wish I knew someone in Reno or Yerington (shere his wife lives with some other guy!!!) to get some good references!

I'm meeting with my divorce lawyer for the first time today. Don't forget that the attorney works for YOU, and if s/he isn't doing the job, they deserve to be sent packing.

Definately complain to the state bar, and be sure to get ALL the files. You're paying this person good $$$, and s/he should be doing his/her job.
