Poll question: Gateway Laptops. Yes or No?
I'm going to buy a new laptop. It might be a Gateway unless I am persuaded otherwise. Your comments please, laptoppers.

So, 64 bit, faster all the way around?

10. Oooo...
So would you say that overall processor performance would be about as good as a 3ghz P4?

I've heard that for graphics, the 64 bit processor is the way to go.

11. Hmmmm, probably pretty close. I don't have a 3ghz P4 to compare
But i'd say that an Athlon 4 3200 (like what's in the laptop) would definitely have a good chance of beating the P4.

3. I had a Gateway for three years and it was wonderful!
No problems at all, really. The only upgrade I made was to get a memory card. But then about seven months ago, it inexplicably died on me. Couldn't get it to start at all. They can't give me any real good answer as to the problem. I've now sent it back to the factory twice now to be repaired, and it's crapped out again each time. Since I was smart and bought the extended warranty, if it craps out again, they will replace it with a refurbished model.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Gateway, and as far as I know, customer service is still located in America.

4. I love mine - no problems
Whatever you do, do NOT get a Toshiba unless you're satisfied they've worked out their overheating/shutting off problems.

6. Mine works quite nicely, thank you.
The major caveat is that it came loaded to the gills with crap software I don't want. Remember how Macs used to have ten or twelve little icons down at the bottom of the screen? That's my Gateway! My particular favorite* is the MCAfee anti-spyware tool that keeps asking me to register for a "critical update" -- and ringing a $*&%*((!! bell when it does so! :grr:

12. I'll second that.
Get a Mac. You'll wonder why you didn't get one sooner.
