2. I've got the '55, but mine steers from the left.
It's a great little engine, if you need parts, I have extra.

3. Mariner is a good 2 stroke!
Mercs are great too! Very few problems with either has been my experience! I just sold a Mariner that I ran for 12 years without a speck of trouble! I always burn all the gasoline out of them before I put the boat on the trailer! I never use last year's gasoline and I always start the next year with new plugs! I bought a new Merc last year and it's reeeeeealy nice!

I know lots of people who have had bad luck with Evinrudes! I blew one up before I bought the Mariner! No indication of a problem and BAM blew a piston and rod through the side of the jug! A good friend of mine has a marine engine repair business and his shop stays full of Evinrudes! He loves them, but he's running a Merc on his boat!

Two friends own Honda 4 strokes and they love them! Those 2 older Hondas have had major problems costing hundreds to repair, but those guys still swear by their Honda motors performance wise! They tell me the Hondas are super easy on gasoline! I've fished with both these guys and I'll have to say the Hondas are really quiet and strong running!
