I have a movie question: The Abyss - ** SPOILERS**
I watched pretty much all of it on TV a few weeks ago. At the end, there's a race of underwater beings who are about to trounce the human race. I swear, this is the 4th or 5th time I've seen The Abyss and I don't remember anything about the underwater people threatening to harm humans.

Has anyone seen a cut of The Abyss where this aspect of the underwater beings has been cut out? It's quite possible because I once saw a hideous hacking of Brazil where they cut out the ending in which we discover the hero has been tortured to death. I think it's possible there's a "pc" print out there where they cut out the "aliens" doing something bad.

I've only seen this movie on commercial TV and I tend to switch between shows during commercials, so it's possible I was surfing during this part in the past. But I think I'd remember people running from mile high tidal waves...

1. My memory of the version I saw (it's been a while)...
... is that the aliens show the humans a sampling of what might happen to them if they don't "shape up" (a common theme in SciFi films, ever since "The day the Earth Stood Still").

2. The alien thing is from the directors cut.
During the orginal release the studio asked Cameron to cut down the movie because it was way to long so he cut out the whole aliens distroy earth plot. In the directors cut he added it back in plus some additional footage, actually the movie makes more since with these scenes put back in. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

3. The tidal wave thing is only in the director's cut
IMO the whole movie doesn't make sense when it's cut out. Good movie nonetheless. Funny too, due to Chris Elliot's part. He makes me laugh even when he's trying to be serious. :)

4. Thanks. I DON'T HAVE AN ANEURYSM!!!
I think I'll buy the DVD, then. It's become one of my favorite sci fi movies. Even if it keeps changing on me.
