DU women: You know me.
You know I'm on your side.

You know I'll be your last friend left when everyone else has deserted you.

So listen to me: Lighten up, would you?.

Please?

If you want to lose weight, go ahead and do so. If not, that's OK with me, as long as it's OK with you.

It's not my place to judge.

Thank God! Just a little exhausted and stressed out. Getting ready to go back to school, plus preparing to run for office and move all the way back to Montana, then I have some writing to do etc. I'm used to being lazy, now all of a sudden I'm getting busy again. :)

Well, I hope you feel better. Once you are able to get out of bed again, the tough part is over. Just take care of yourself, eat healthy and stay rested. :)

Why are you asking us to "lighten up?"

I think that is pretty straightforward.

To be clear:

DU women: You know me.

You know I'm on your side.

You know I'll be your last friend left when everyone else has deserted you.

So listen to me: Lighten up, would you?.

What does that mean?

13. Well, let's go ahead and give this thread the mercy killing
that it deserves.

I do apologize. I've spent the evening being a PTSD counselor which, although I'm good at it, is not something I've aspired to, especially given that but for the grace of God and a large amount of born obliviousness, I'd be on the receiving rather than the giving end of it.

Not that I'm complaining.

You all are entitled to be as offended as you wish to be at whatever you wish to be offended.

Never mind what I said.

I gotta go.

One can never hear those words enough times.

There are layers and layers of complexities in all of our lives, and a nice cold beer would be a perfect venue to trade mine for yours. I'd like that.

Even if mine would give you the willies, which would be almost guaranteed.

I've not been here that much in the last week because of, well, see my previous post about PTSD counseling, and did not realize that there was some amount of misogynism going on.

I am so weary. I have to go.

46. OK, If you will, look at my first response to Redstone. Then look at
redstone's response to me. It seemed to be favorable. Then I responded to a question about being uncomfortable with the matriarchy in here by saying "yes". Redstone responded in a way that I interpreted to be a misunderstanding and I tried to be more clear in a humorous way, so please give me the benefit of the doubt; I believe I was posting accurately to the proper recipient--Redstone. This original post sounded sincere and I agreed with it, even more so now that I have had to clarify once again.

58. Women (like me) "jumped all over" him... because it was a long day
of dealing with misogynistic threads and posts and some disruptive trolls and some well-meaning (and not so well-meaning) "jokes" all contributing to reaching a saturation point.

I love Redstone, but last night, I really didn't need to see "lighten up" from anyone.

I'm aware after reading the thread this morning that he had no idea what situation he had ventured into. So, it's all cool.

I am curious what makes you use the term "matriarchy" as if you actually believe that DU is somehow controlled by women oppressing men.

61. Thanks for your post, I guess I did not see the more disturbing threads
on this subject. I got up this morning still feeling somewhat misunderstood, which is precisely why I hopped into this thread with my opinion. (perhaps unwisely ha!) To answer about some of the words I used, I was reacting to "womyn" in post 24 and "matriarchy" in post 31. So I think I stuck my nose in something where I did not realize feelings were still running high. Oh well, today is another day & I'm sure I'll do it again!

62. I know you're cool
But when guys post crap right in the middle of a supreme court nomination of someoe out to remove our rights, it just ain't funny.

Imagine if you will that a USSC judge had written a position paper advocating castration for all unwed fathers, and women were all over the site minimizing the postions of men:

"My husband is fat! Should I make him run outside the car?"

"My husband wants to go to the store without me! What should I do?"

"It's GIRL POWER TIME IN THE LOUNGE!" (hidden message is let's discuss how men are all braun and no brains...)

What you are really saying when you ask us to lighten up is that "boys will be boys." But I ask you, how is it that girls can and will be girls without that beingness minimizing men?

I agree much is DONE in good humor, but that doesn't mean it REMAINS in good humor once everyone else chimes in.

69. I know you are on our side, RS, and I can only address the issue in
generalities, but:

My mom was on the front lines, even in her middle age, of the women's rights movement. She marched to protect Roe v. Wade. She worked like crazy to see Title IX passed. My mom was a classic soccer mom, btw.

I never dreamed I'd see the day when everything she worked for, struggled for, would be at such risk.

If you've spent time in the GD forums this week, you know "they" were prepared. "They" are here in droves, and they are pretty bold. "They" aren't winning, but "they" aren't giving up, either. Many of us are in the pits with "them." "They" try to reel us in with their "good natured" jest, and some are succeeding.

DU is like a friendly pub of like minded people, IMHO. Last week, I participated in a "blonde jokes" thread. I giggled and truly enjoyed it. This week, a thread like the remote one (I didn't see it till now--I would have ALWAYS considered it offensive) hits nerves many of us didn't remember we had, but have become all too aware of this week.

The Lounge is where we come to cool off and have some laughs. Can we please try to keep it that way (despite my post)?

Stay in the fight for us, and lighten up yourself. I was one of the first to welcome you here, and I know you have our backs. But understand that things are very difficult for those of us who happen to be women.

I'm scared of what's happening. I need to know that DU is on our side.

I'd nominate this one, because it's exactly how I feel, too.

I won't let that happen again.

78. I'm going to be doing some more PTSD counseling this evening
(for a woman), so I'll probably be in the same mood as last night because it's kind of wearying, and I'll probably not be up to answering the many posts here.

Thanks for the good words to the ones who posted them.

As far as anyone who wants to use the word "misogynist" to describe me, well, go ahead, because you don't know me very well. I'm NOT going to be defensive, but I will tell you that although I'll never be an Alan Alda-type pandering weenie who would describe himself as a "feminist," I've done and continue to do some volunteer and charitable things for women and children who really need help that might surprise you.

Not that I'm looking for approval from anyone. That's not why I do it. I gotta go.

83. Nobody's describing YOU as a misogynist....
I hope you know that.

However... it does kinda bother me that you find male feminists to be "weenies." That's a shame.

84. No. It's just that every guy I've ever head describe himself as
"a feminist" has also struck me as being a weenie. And I think many, many or them are not telling the truth when they say that; I think they're just pandering and posturing.

That's my opinion. I don't like insincere people, and those people strike me as being insincere. And I am NOT going to apologize for stating my opinion about certain people, whether my opinion is politically correct or not.

I don't feel I have to use labels. Sorry, but I'm one of those people who DOES things to help women and children rather than talking about it.

In fact, I do feel guilty, though. I've been spending way too much time relaxing and hanging out on DU lately, when I have the annual report for the Food Bank to finish the layout work and prepress on (I do this as a volunteer), and some other stuff that's been lagging while I was screwing around here.

Talk about insincere: here I am talking about all the charity work that I do, and I haven't done enough of it lately. I need to go get to work.

85. I also do a lot for women and children...
and calling myself a feminist doesn't make me feel like a weenie at all. Why should it make a man feel that way? I think that's part of the problem, that these gender roles are so defined that a man feels less than a man if he calls himself a feminist... or he's just calling himself a feminist to get in a woman's pants.

Fortunately, I know a lot of strong, independent, intelligent men who are proud to call themselves feminists. Rock on, feminist men!!

86. OK, fine. You're going to argue with me no matter what I say.
So I'm not saying anymore. I learned a long time ago that the best thing do do when someone is determined to have a fight with you is not to give them one.

And that's what I'm doing now.

87. I am not arguing with you Redstone... I am expressing my opinion...
I admire men who call themselves feminists, and I know many of them... your comment was an insult to them, calling them weenies. I think that this gender divide is a big problem.

If you think that saying that is just arguing for the sake of arguing, then you are one posting for the sake of posting. You don't want to hear my honest reaction... you just want to post your opinion.
