so how do you clean a keyboard out?

out of the spaces between and under the keys. You can buy the cans of air at any office supply store for about $3 or $4.

Or, you can turn your keyboard upside-down and gently tap the upturned bottom, dislodging the granola crumbs.

seems to be cemented in there pretty good.

I picked half the keys off, and I am about to pick the other half off.

...then go get a new one. :)

Alcohol doesn't conduct electricity.

clean out all the cat hair, soak the keys in rubbing alcohol for a few hours and then snap them back in to place, one by one. It's like putting together a puzzle! :)

Havocdad gets annoyed about it. I just remind him that all things being_, frankly my dear, I don't give a damn, more or=.

especially if there is a lot of food in that keyboard you need to clean

by spilling Guiness on it every few weeks.

Also, I know this sounds odd, but if it isn't wireless, the ones that attach to the back of your computer can actually be immersed in a sinkful of water and a little detergent to get out the "stickies" ~ just work the keys a little to make sure they get the water and detergent worked into the sticky spots. Rinse well. Turn it upside down and shake out as much of the water as you can and then lay it flat (either way) to dry. Just make sure it is allowed to dry (depending upon the time of year) for up to a week before you reattach it. If you lay it out in the sun when it is hot outside, you could probably reattach it much sooner, like within a day, but the secret is to make absolutely sure it is bone dry. I would go to a local 2nd hand store and buy another one for the meantime while it dries. They cost around 5 bucks used. This way you always have one to use while the other one is drying.

I am an IT person and this is how I clean my keyboards. It works and it is fine. See, the pads underneath the keys are encased in this plastic stuff that is not hurt by getting wet. I cannot caution you enough tho, make sure it is absolutely dry before reattaching it or your computer will go ape and start dinging and stuff. It won't hurt your machine if you miscalculate and do it too soon as long as you just detach it ASAP and let it dry some more.

Still sort of gross, but not NEARLY as bad as it was.
