1. Me either
their are whole series that have come and gone and I've missed them. The only show I like is ER and most often I forget that's it's on.

5. ER is also incredibly well written
and I miss working in a medical environment so the show gives me a hit!

3. Occasionally there are some really well written shows
and "Lost" is one of them. I have to say that I give a lot of new shows 3 or 4 weeks where I try to like them and then give up. But I was hooked after the first episode with LOST.

6. if what you say is true
then it seems plausible that people would get all gaga about it.

given the rash of reality programming (which pretty much doesn't involve any storytelling), i guess people would want to see something that is written well or that has a story line.

8. I despise reality programs
I watched one called "the mole" which was on maybe the very first year they started it. It was ok, but every aspect of reality programs has been taken to the extreme since them. They are apparently highly addictive- because a lot of people don't want to miss a minute- but I don't like them at all.

There are a few good dramas, but its really hard to predict from the hype.

7. Never watched Lost...but I'm not anti-TV
In general, I HATE REALITY TV -or in Lost's case, semi-pseudo Reality TV (if I'm interpreting the annoying commercials correctly).

That said, there are a few great shows that pop-up now and then... Northern Exposure is one of my all time favorites.

But in general, yeah, 99% of what's on the tube is garbage. Watch for the jewels, they do show up now and then =)

9. I can't imagine getting excited about "The Apprentice"
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 11:47 AM by terrya
That fucking show is but one sign that this society is seriously fucked up. Getting involved about a show where sone greedy slimeball real estate developer picks an assistant. God damn, but our values are fucked up beyond beiief if anyone can get enthusiastic about that.

16. No, I'm not joking.
NBC has a show on the air called "The Apprentice", where Donald Trump chooses an assistant from a group of people. It's for real. It's one of NBC's highest rated shows.

11. I started watching Lost and Battlestar Gallactica and you know
what? After a few episodes I thought both made no sense, that the writers were maybe on something or were just hacks trying to drag out some weak story lines. Reminds me of movies that are 3 hours long and should have been 1.5 hours.

18. yep..
I watched pretty much the whole season because my roomie was into it. I don't think even the writers know where they are taking it. IMHO, it sucked (24 too). Deadwood, on the other hand; very well written, great characters, and excellent acting.

21. be forewarned..
it's rather violent at times, and laced with expletives. Not for the sensitive type at all.

22. oops, just looked it up and saw it was HBO and I don't have that.
I do get the Sopranos tapes from the library (they are hilarious when they aren't being sick) when every season ends. ("Oh, that guy looked at me the wrong way; let's beat him to death, Paulie. Oh, okay T, come on Christopher. Bam, bam, bam, kick, kick")

15. I like "Lost" and am even now watching the reruns
It is well written and acted and you can easily get interested in the lives of these people.

I have never watched any reality show after which, supposedly, "Lost" was created. In contrast to the reality show (I think) no one is trying to eat insects or other parts of animals or just fill the program with grosssology. It is more about how people behave, what happened in their lives before and how they adjust and reinvent themselves, perhaps even redeem themselves for their past actions.

There is no rational explanation of why and how they survived, or what happened to some of them and I do Hope that at the end it won't turn into some type of a religious enlightenment. But for now, it is fascinated.

I "discovered" friend after it was around for several seasons so caught up with it during reruns. In most cases it is funny and laughing on occasions is good for one's health. A nice diversion from the real news. Same can be said for "Lost," I suppose, and "Desperate Housewives" and "24," "House" "Boston Legal," "CSI" (the Las Vegas only) and now "Closer."

This past season was the first, in many years that we actually watched network series.

19. A plane en route from Sydney to Los Angeles
goes off course and crashes somewhere in the South Pacific. The plane breaks into pieces and one piece lands conveniently on the edge of an island in the middle of nowhere. There are around 46 survivors, among them a surgeon, a US martial and his prisoner, a pregnant Australian girl travelling alone, a former Iraqi soldier, a Korean couple, and so on. Over the course of the show there are flashbacks to the history of each individual.

They realize pretty quickly that its unlikely they're going to be rescued, that there are some really strange things about the island, and that its damn hard to survive in the middle of nowhere. Fights, drowning, birth, death, romance... loads of drama every week.
