We just got Sirius radio. The flyer we received said AAR was on 144
but it isn't there.

Is AAR still with Sirius? Sorry about asking a lame question, but I wanted to get AAR on sattelite radio, and it appears it isn't.

TIA. MKJ

5. Was it ever on Sirius? I would have sworn that discussion took place
here just a short time ago. MKJ

BTW, is XM a Clear Channel product?

a search will bring up many opinions.

We originally switched from XM to Sirius to get all of AAR and made sure Sirius knew that is the only reason we switched to Sirius. Likewise we informed them that IF they drop AAR for any reason we will no longer be subscribers. We canceled our 3 subscriptions as soon as we realized that Sirius dropped Air America. We don't buy into the "spin" that XM wanted Air America so much they demanded an exclusive contract because if that were the case, XM would have been airing all of Air America. Sirius decided, and is betting they will not lose enough subscribers over dropping Air America to justify paying to keep them. As I posted previously, this is not a question of what liberal shows are better or who is better this is a challenge between Air America and Sirius - Sirius is betting that liberals don't really care if Sirius drops AAR, and Air America is betting their listeners will stand up for them and cancel their subscriptions to show Sirius and the rest of the business world that liberals can and will stand up for AAR. Many refuse to think of it in as a business challenge, much like the old boycotts and strikes of yesteryear, many prefer to think of it as AAR moving on to a better place - get real, how can losing listeners be better, if that reverse logic would work, they would be shutting down over the air stations. However, it is easier to hide behind the spin and to ignore reality than to stand up in a fight. Lord knows I am pissed at AAR for allowing this situation to develop but realize it is because they are so inexperienced, they just didn't prepare, they thought that all they had to do was provide good programming and everything would work out OK.

My advice to the original poster:

It's possible you can cancel your subscription and take back your equipment for a refund - many places such as Circuit City and Best Buy have a good return policy within the first 30 days. Likewise if you explain to Sirius customer service you thought they had Air America because their brochures claims they do and that is the ONLY reason you signed up with Sirius they will probably refund all your money. Sit back and wait to see what happens, save your subscription money. You will have sent a strong financial message to Sirius and the business world that YOU want Air America Radio and YOU will NOT settle for anything less. You will have chosen to fight back rather than roll over.

on edit: A coworker informs me that Howard Stearn has stunts to get his listeners to contact Sirius to see when his show is coming on and or subscribe - this is the difference between having experience and knowing how to work the system vs AAR that did nothing but provide programming. Sirius is always hearing from people they believe to be potential customers requesting Howard Stearn. Likewise the right wingers make their voices heard - but liberals, many just accept the changes.

18. You do raise a good point here....
I think everyone of us who have signed up with XM because of AAR (whether moving from Sirius or otherwise) needs to tell XM why we subscribed, and demand that they get that Ed Schultz/Alan Colmes bullshit off the air and carry the Air America programming as advertised. Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy are the best things Air America has going for them, and they don't need their content manipulated by a half assed DLC Limbaugh clone or a FAUX shill.

15. XM is largely owned by Clear Channel. I believe the term was
"equity partner," the ownership 30%. But that was just the result of a Google search; maybe somebody here would have more up-to-date or accurate info.

3. From everything I've heard, AAR signed an exclusive contract...
with XM and is no longer with Sirius.

4. AAR is on XM
It was on Sirius until 2 weeks ago.

Give Sirius Left a chance. I like most of it better than AAR.

6. Where have you been?
AAR jumped ship on Sirius 2 wks ago and went exclusive on XM. Bummer for us Sirius subscribers, but there is still a lot of great content. Besides, they chopped up the old AAR format with the move.

Talk Left is still on 143 and being simulcast on 144 for the time being.

Nonetheless, welcome to Sirius!

9. I've been behind the times, apparently. I am enjoying TalkLeft, except
for the woman who sort of sounds like a hopped up Joan Rivers.

I was pleasantly surprised when they broadcast Jay Marvin, from Boulder, yesterday. MKJ

7. AAR has an exclusive
contract now with XM. Still no Randi, shortened show after Shultz, and delayed Malloy after Colmes. Hope they switch that soon.

8. AAR America Left actually) has been on XM for a while
but I thought it was on Sirius also. Return it, XM is better (and cheaper) anyway, unless you like Howard Stern.

16. Actually, the exclusive deal with XM aside,
they are probably about equal. There was a time when XM was a couple of dollars cheaper per month ($10.99 v. $13.99), but I checked the subscription prices, and they are now both $12.95 per month. I am still partial to XM.

XM better than Sirius. I am trying to decide to dump Sirius for XM or keep it.

19. Perhaps I'm not the best person to answer
because I know little about Sirius programming. I have a family member that works for XM, so that's the company I went with. Now I'm just used to XM and couldn't imagine changing.

All things being equal, one difference might have swayed me, that being the exclusive contract with MLB and the ACC. I can listen to the Nationals and Terps games, even though I now live out of the area. However, this may not mean anything to you. I also think XM has a better selection of international music.
