I'm celebrating today.
Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 08:57 AM by caty
Eight weeks ago today, I had surgery for a ruptured appendix, and today I feel like I've fully recovered. No more pain and I feel like I've finally gotten all my strength back. I feel normal and back to my "old self" again.
Also, eight weeks ago today, I quit smoking. So proud of myself.:toast:  :woohoo:

1. Congrats. Stay away from those cigs. Stay healthy!!!!
Nothing like a ruptured appendix to help you stop smoking.
You are very lucky. Again. Congrats on your great recovery.

:hi: Stay well.

3. Thanks.
I'm not taking credit for the first 5 days, because I had an IV that I think helped flush the nicotine from my system. I still crave one now and then but I'm being strong.

2. Good for you, caty!
Given that it allowed you to quit smoking, you may come to view the ruptured appendix to be a blessing in disguise.

You should be proud of yourself; quitting smoking is a real achievement!

I'm glad that you're feeling totally healthy again.

I was on oxygen for
5 days after surgery because my oxygen level wouldn't stay up---becaused I was a smoker. It was a struggle to breath and I just got fed up and decided that I would never feel like that again.

I've posted this before, but it's the best way I can think of to describe it: Don't think of a cigarette as a friend you have abandoned. Think of a cigarette as a dangerous stalker you have finally gotten out of your life. If you don't smoke, don't start. If you do smoke, quit. It really does get easier with every week that goes by.:toast:

The first month was the hardest. since you've got 2 months in, you're getting into "safe waters", and I'm proud of ya!

6. Wow - glad you're feeling better!
That's really serious and I know it takes a long time to feel back to normal. My mom's appendix ruptured about 15 years ago right at Christmas - scary.

9. My husband is getting ready to quit.
Edited on Sun Jul-24-05 11:21 AM by caty
He said that he looked at smoking like paying a hit man to kill him. And he's paying $40 a carton to do it.

10. Good for you, on all counts!
Getting over a ruptured appendix is a BIG THING! Used to be a death sentence, not too many years ago...

And you should be proud of your accomplishment in quitting smoking. I really like what your husband said, about it being like paying a hit man to kill you! How true that is!

Way to go!

It takes a long time to recover from abdominal surgery. Congrats on getting back to yourself - and on giving your lungs a new lease on life. :woohoo:

19. Thank you to everyone
for the congrats and praise. Whenever I think about smoking again, I remember what I looked like in the mirror at the hospital. I had one of those oxygen tubes across my face and I was breathing so hard trying to get enough oxygen in to breath. And the sound I made doing it was scary. I see that image in my mind and hear that sound and I know I will never smoke again. I knew I couldn't put quitting off any longer.

20. congrats caty!
kicking ciggies is harder than kicking heroin I've heard. My old man quit a 40-year, 3-pack-a-day habit ten years ago, and it was the most difficult thing he ever did.

Glad to hear you're feeling better! stay strong! :hi:
