Quick summary...the town I live in (Coatesville, PA) has been trying for over four years to condemn the land (through eminent domain) of a farm outside of the city limits (in a different township, in fact) to build a golf course/recreational facility in order to "revitalize" the town. Of course, people would be able to get off the bypass, go to the center, and go home without ever getting close to the center of town, which is a bit of a hole anyway. The city council has spent millions in lawyers and smear campaigns, rather than using the money to revitalize the downtown, which is what really needs the work.
Anyhoo, several referendums were put on Tuesday's ballot, which prevent the city from condemning the land, as well as making them follow PA law regarding government competition with private enterprise, which it seems they want to avoid. The referendums passed, which I'm quite happy about.
The point of my story...I did a Yahoo search to see if there were other websites and stories about the situation, and one of the links was to FreeRepublic. Amazingly, they all think the City Council are a bunch of gutless slimebags, too! I'm not sure if this means they're getting better, or I'm getting worse. :)
