How many people are counterfeiting nickels? Isn't there something else we could be spending that money on? Sheesh!

...for the bicentennial of two events in US history. Just for some stupid reason 1 year late (2004?).

I do wonder what the cost is, tho. (Bet it's not $87.5 billion.)

Supposedly, the redesign cost $300,000. My guess is that number was rounded down.

This is why Joe Middle America say "I know how to spend my money better than the government." 300,000 for some congressman's pet project so he can tell the voters he fought for them in Washington and got a bill passed. Too bad his damn bill was to authorize the Treasury to make a new nickel. That 300,000 would have

bought some ambulances for some low income, rural counties,

or it could have paid some numbnuts to actually look at the x-ray scanner at a capitol office building and notice toy guns in backpacks while the carrier was still present,

or it could have bought some body armor for some national guardsmen

i could go on and on and on. My point is, when you have the deficit we have now, you have to spend your money better. No one gives a crap whether Lewis and Clark get their due. But people are losing jobs, and they hear the government can't give them a hand, but at least when they're beggin for change, they have some dandy new nickels to look forward to.
